Q: Having a baby in China? any documents?

Hello

my Chinese wife is telling or should I say guessing that I need to go to my U.S Embassy to get a document that gives me permission to have a baby with her, like most laws in China are unclear, I need help clearing this up. My wife is 2 months pregnant, do I really need to go to my U.S embassy and get a document to allow me or whatever to have a baby?

thanks.

Our daughter was born here, Chinese wife.  We registered the birth abroad, so she's a us passport holder.  But as far as permission goes?  Uh, I have never heard of such a thing.  Who's giving you permission?  The US government?  It smells like horse shit to me.

You don't need any documentation to have a baby. If you plan to apply for your child to have U.S citizenship however, there are some hospitals that will not allow you to deliver there.

If the plan is to give birth in China, you should contact your embassy to ask for what is needed in terms of getting your child citizenship. (Unless you want Chinese citizenship) Most likely you will need a birth certificate from the hospital, it may or may not need to be translated before going for citizenship.

As to permission to have children in China. This is only for the Chinese, possibly she would need to bring your passport/wedding papers and such to the family planning office when she applies for having children.

Scandinavian:

Also check up on if having a US passport will somehow disqualify you child for public schools in China. A lot of things are tied up on having a hukou.

I have a girl born in China with a USA passport after I registered her at the Embassy.  She got her birth certificate at the hospital, and I took it to the USA Consulate for registration.

As a US citizen, you do not need any type of permission to get your wife pregnant, so please, do not give any free ideas to Obama..........

It is understandable for a Chinese to have a concern, since here in China birth is government regulated.

And remember, Dual citizenship is not permitted in China, but it isd OK in USA.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
