anybody else uncomfortable carrying aroung your passport everywhere when you visit cities in the same or neighboring province. you lose it and itll be weeks/months of hassle and bagful of dosh. i just wondered if anybody thought an id card issued to foreigners would be a good idea. is anybody else bothered by it. i'd be willing to pay couple of hundred for it,
Isn't that the point of the new work permit cards?
RandomGuy:
But these cards don't work for anything, you can't buy train/plane tickets with it, you can't book or check in hotels with it. Even the so-called green card doesn't allow you to do that.
Stiggs:
FFS, so you jump through all sorts of new ridiculous hoops to get an essentially useless card. I should have expected that I suppose...
It's funny, everytime I wonder to myself if I could see myself accepting an offer to work in China again I hear about something like this.

Randomguy is right, they are not good nothing. Its basically just a work ID card. You still need your passpot for everyhting you always need your passport for. I dont think it such a big deal. Bringing it with you when you travel its not a big deal either... its like saying your wallet or your phone is a pain in ass to carry around when you travel...it guess it could be seen that way....Thats what being an adult is all about..

Law is the passport, just don't see how its possible when swimming & exercising or Mountain climbing lol.
The drivers license test in English and you study a 1000 random question of the internet and they give you a 100 for the exam, for a foreinger in Jinan, I had to score 90 percent, so I have a Chinese license but I had to use a Chinese name. I will get my wife to get the website name for practice when I get back to China.

there are some phone apps, but I don't use (spy) smartphones. police hand signals were weighted heavy on the test.
I leave my passport in my apartment. I do have my us drivers license as well as my passport card with me. I also have pictures of my passport and visa on my phone. So.. I don't do it but its not legal.

I always did the same thing. I never once got asked for my passport in day to day life and the only time I heard of it happening was when a guy got into some sort of dispute that resulted in the cops being called - they asked for his passport and probably asked to see the other guy's I.D too, he said he didn't have it on him because he was scared of losing it but he'd be happy to go a get it for them if they wanted to see it, cops said fair enough and don't worry about it.
Stiggs:
Actually, I wouldn't be carrying my drivers license if I were you mate, if you lose that it would be a pain in the arse to replace from China and it's not like you'll have any real need for it in China.
I would whole heartedly ( ..whot-a-word) support you, and everybody here knows, I got a lot of pull at SAFEAs.
