I know you need a health check for the visa. But i was under the impression that it was so you can get the foreign experts certificate. That you dont need the health check to actually apply for the visa. The experts certificate denotes that you have it.
Except i just re-upped my foreign experts a few days ago with no health check. So... Did i beat the system and i dont need the health check? Or am I and google mis-inforemed? Any answers would be usefull and sources even better as tomorrow morning i need to make the hours drive to the damn hospital.
Thanks!

According to my experience It is a requirement for any foreigner coming into China for long term.
My wife came on X visa she needed the medical...I came with her on S and I needed it too...
But those coming on short term, they don't need it..
And that is exactly what it says on the website of Chinese Embassy located in my country..
I've been with the same company through 4 visa cycles and I only had to do the health check the first time.
Since then the visa has been renewed in the background by someone from HR, just once a year they tell me bring my passport and house registration to the office and a week later I get it back with a new residence permit.
I've never held onto my own foreign expert thing, does that get renewed every year?
Maybe it's because i'm on a permanent employment contract and not a 1 year one but as far as I know, you don't need the health check if you are renewing with the same company.
AFAIK: the medical was for new visas and not for renewing.
Yeah when I first applied for a student visa I had to do the health check, for my second year as student I didn't have to do the health check. I will have to do it for my new working visa though.
I received my FEC(Renewed) yesterday without any health check, will be applying for the RP within next couple of days.
When I was applying for the Z visa last year back home, the HR sent me a form I filled by myself and the recognized doctor stamped that. I submit that form along with the visa form in the Chinese embassy. Upon my arrival, I went through health check. Few days back the HR told me I don't need health check again for renewal. So my conclusion is we need health check for the first time applying for FEC and upon changing job, I am not quite certain about the latter. I will update once I go through the whole process by myself.

Which city are you in? That would help him, He and I are in Shenzhen, if you are in SZ and both of us already got our FEC back, then I think Mike is fine without it.
I'm with the same company and I just got my stamp and FEC blue book back last week with NO health Check requested. If you're changing companies they "might" ask for a new one, these new guys within China were required a new health check while transferring to a new company.. When you say "re-upped" your FEC, meaning did you fill all of the 7 years in it and they gave you a new FEC blue book?

Nope i just mean, another year, another stamp. Same book. Same employer. They didnt ask any questions at all. I was under the impression that i needed the health check for the experts. Since i already have that, couldnt i just go and give them the rest of my stuff as is?
ironman510:
Yeah you shouldn't need a new health check I bet, That's what our HR did, she just walked in with the stuff & FEC books and got the stamps for 5 of us, we weren't with her and none of us were required to get a new health check, so I wouldn't worry about a new health check in SZ, you should be fine, save your time and money..
I know China makes us feel like we should prepare more then what's on the list, I've learn to prepare something or be prepared for something a little extra, we've both learned that there are these extra common hidden requirements that they never tell us, but we know that it'll be something and we know to be ready. China has made my brain think and plan an extra mile before walking into any service office.
I recently renewed my RP and needed to get the medical, which was a new thing. In the past when I renewed with the same company I didn't need to do the physical again.
I think it probably depends on the relationship your company has with the visa people.
ironman510:
Was this in Shenzhen? I wonder if its required for different types of jobs? I just got my FEC stamped and renewed last Wednesday June 18th, my RP will be released next month.. All of this with no new health check.
jayz123:
in shenzhen, renew the RP, doesnt need to do checkup.
if they do, you can ask labor bureau which hospital is appointed to do it.
Renewed in Qingdao a couple of years ago, no new health check req'd.
Renewed twice now in Xinjiang and new health check req'd both years. Jolly inconvenient as the only designated place is in the capital, Urumqi, which is far away.
It could be law, or it could be Xinjiang, or it could be TIC.
Whatever the reason, the real answer is TIC. A 10 headed monster with no communication between the heads.
Had to go anyways. I told my secretary that it shouldnt be needed and that she needed to confirm... She said she called and confirmed. So this morning I went anyways.... Damn.
I needed for the renewal of both FEC and Visa. In the beginning, I got RP for three years so one health check up worked. Now when I renew RP annually, I have to do it for both FEC and Visa. (Annual renewal gives me freedom/plan to leave anytime/soon.) This time I asked for 6 months renewal, and I had to do health check up again.
Yes. If you renew Z visa you have to get medical check. Unless you going to renew it in 6 months. So you can skip on this part.
In Nanning you need to (re)do the health check every year in order to get/renew your FEC.
In Guangxi, Guilin, as a student and in Guangdong, working, I did 2 Health Checks but each time just once (first year), didnt need a new one for the 2nd year.
