Avoid it like the plague. I lived there for over two years. It was improving last time I visited, but when I lived there, there were approximately 20 foreigners, so it was impossible to have any kind of privacy. Utility outages were a weekly occurrence, with no water or electricity for weeks at a time. It is filthy, horrible, ugly, lots of crime, just bad in every way. If you move there, make sure you can handle a fight, because you'll have drunk guys trying to beat the shit out of you all the time if you look foreign.

If you get a job from World English in particular, avoid it like the plague. Supposedly the University isn't bad but pays low. World English is owned by the most corrupt person I've ever met. An extremely alcoholic local government official named Wang, who bribes his way through everything. Most of what bittered me toward China in retrospect, was having to deal with this one particular sociopath. Expect long hours (seven days a week, 14 hours a day, no matter what the contract says), and expect to be treated like garbage and have racial insults thrown at you constantly.

I'd probably still be in China (I really missed some aspects of living in China), but after the abuse I took from lao Wang, I just couldn't look at the country the same way.
