For most women living with one alcoholic, wife beating, mummy's boy, man child who has no sense of responsibility and only thinks about his own self-gratification is probably enough? So I think you should open the question up to the other point of view too.
Interestingly, although the men in southern Guangdong are quite blatant about having small threes and other women on the side they are very insecure and it would be a huge loss of face to be hubby number two. And everything is about face.
