I (aii) will never return to China, again!

Stiggs:

I was offered a job there last week. Before covid I hadn't really been intending to return to China but hadn't entirely written off the idea either, I do miss the place sometimes.

Who knows what will happen over the next year. International travel might not be possible with closed borders and potential new outbreaks, the global economy might be in such a bad state that things like English schools won't exist, we might all be dead or in the middle of WW3...

Or hell, I might find myself back in China. Life has taken a turn towards the surreal, I feel like anything could happen.

What about Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore ... even India? There are job opps elsewere, especially for Native Englishers.

I signed off China in 2017.. I was sick of  arguing with them about contract respect ... last school still owes me flight refund monies.

Change of Labour law also contributed to that ..

Yeah, assuming I head overseas again anything is possible. It's hard to predict what will happen as far as the ESL industry goes or even if there will still be one but one thing seems to be common everywhere, getting scammed. If I did return to China (still a pretty big if at this point) it would be working with people I know, and with a school I know is ok.

For that reason (preventing of being scammed), I mostly worked for Public Schools in China, butT ... you remember my threads here. At every place I was, I had to call SAFEA .. No more China for me, ever again.

I went back to work (in a public high school) yesterday. My wife (a university professor) has been working on-line for about a month.

I have been working, doing online classes during the lockdown, and now I am in the classroom working. Only one of the months did I get 20% of salary reduced, but full pay on all others. Things are back to normal at my school.
