Q: Homosexuality in China existent?

I see a lot of effeminate Chinese men walking in the streets, but never saw anyone openly saying they are men lovers. So I asked a Chinese friend of mine, and asked him about it, and he laughed, saying there was no such things as two men loving each other in China. I insisted, because sometime, I cannot say if utterly effeminate, or just gay. My Chinese friend then got mad, saying that if there were, it was "one of the 'Merican import" that was shipping it. In the end, I still don't know.

So, I'm asking : does homosexuality exists, and what's the general perception about it in China?

i dont konw why your friend told you that, the true is there are millions homosexuality in china , but according to china traditional culture, pepole will not talk about their Sexual orientation in public, and after new china establish, the homosexuality was thought a kind of mental illness in a long time. today the society opinion have made a great change, the homosexuality as treat a natural on human being and a few of brave yong gays public their identity to others, but most of them still keep their secret becasue the relatives and social pressure .

As far as I can tell, not much is practiced openly here. There is so much social pressure on EVERYONE. Of course, LGBT people are everywhere. C'mon, now. Wink

Homosexuality is everywhere. Don't believe anyone who says otherwise. There are tons of gay people in China and there will only be more in the future. People try to keep it under wraps because they will be discriminated against. I'm guessing the discrimination will be somewhere between getting stoned to death like they do in Iran and being a social outcast like they do in America.

Oh yeah homosexuality exists. Its just kept underground. Back in 2008 a "gay bar" (for lack of better word) in Chongqing hired a couple of my more open minded friends to walking around in little tight shorts promoting expensive bottles of alcohol.

In the last schools i was working at i was in the office and a teacher friend of mine came over to my desk with one of the school laptops laughing and smiling telling me about how funny this video he found on the computer was...we started watching and saw it was gay porn!...we were both laughing in hysterics in the office (we knew someone must have d/led this only 4 male staff there....) then hearing our laughter and seeing we were looking at a laptop screen one of the males there came straight over and took the laptop off us...he went away into a classroom for several minuets, we never saw any trace of the video again....

now to me this is proof he downloaded it and proof he did not want us to see it...i am quite sure he is gay.

note- I was the only foreigner there....

In some cities ive been into what to me look like gay bars, posters of fit oily boys near entrance or similar on walls but have not seen boy openly kissing etc in this type of place...but certainly a much higher percentage of boys than most bars.

Whenever in doubt always go to the stats. Remember the saying: There are lies and damn lies and then there are statistics.
1.4 billion people = approximately 800million males = 400 million of adult age.
3% of a male population in any country has bi (homosexual) tendencies.
That equates to about 12 million potential homosexuals wandering the streets of China.
Be careful!!

For Lesbians apply 1%.

Just go to The Village and you tell me there's no gays in China.

They are quite open in my perspective.

Yes, migrant workers especially have no chance at sexual conquests with women, so they end up bumming each other all the time.

I live in a pretty small town, but even here we have some mega trannies. Defiantly genetically men, defiantly dressed as women.

A lot of the time you can see its their real hair. Ive seen them out in the day too. These aren't just wasted people, they seem to be legit trans-gendered indivudals who self identify as women.

I know what you mean about the effeminate men. In the west, people DREAD being taken for the wrong sexual orientation. But in China, where only "straight" is deemed to really exist, men in particular are much less worried about being seen as manly.

Just like how toy guns in China can really look like guns because no in is perceives a threat from the existence of the real thing.

my friend is a gay foreigner in china, we are both teachers. the gay scene is huge and while not openly talked about in polite company people do know about it. In my city there is a 'secretly' gay bath house that is more like a bar, sex hotel, orgy stadium. There is also a gay park where you see men in tiny pants and fluffy hair. i am sure some sell sex and others are just looking to hook up. Though some chinese friends i told about this have never heard of either place. i have seen many boys holding hands and even kissing. I am shocked no one else really noticed these things, maybe you just don't want to.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
