The best of China and the west, all rolled up into one giant coss-cultural burrito?
Were the opium wars worth what it has is become?
If I worked for a bank, then rest assured I would be there full time!! But alas, I am stuck in a back water called Shenzhen.
Hong Kong is technically not a city. But, it is a great place to visit. I don't think its the best though. For me the greatest city in the world is Bangkok.
Hong Kong is a city. We're not talking about legal designations. It's a city.
I love it there. Greatest though? Not sure.
Hong Kong absolute a metropolis, this city prefect mingle eastern and western cultural and creat it's special aspect. as a mainland people, i highly admire HongKong political system, it is a high effective, honest and clean goverment, a best example contrast with chinese mainlan.and the greatest city in the wrold.
Hong Kong is a great city yes, it is one of my favorite places to go and just walk around. I usually just take the MTR some where and get off and spend hours exploring that area, then I get back on the MTR and do the same at another station.
Hong Kong Rocks, I am also in the backwater sin city of Shenzhen, I go to HK regulaly to get a dose of civility and some black and gooey.
Live and work in Beijing but love HK Congrete paradise but beautiful
I love HK, not sure if it's the greatest city. Tokyo and Shanghai are up there too in my opinion!
Too hot and humid in summer... otherwise, possibly!
Hong Kong is a brilliant place when it comes to big cities, it compares poorly with the town I grew up in. Each time I have taken the ferry from Zhuhai to Hong Kong, stepping of the boat is always with a sigh of relief of being back in the normal world.
Hong Kong shows what China can be one day when the CCP realizes it is not right about everything.
Not really my kind of place. I find the climate uncomfortable, the costs are high, the traffic is bad, pollution not too pleasant and I despise being accosted in the street every two seconds by guys wanting to sell suits, replica watches and whatever else they may be trying to flog. On the plus side, it is a great place for meeting clients. There are places to do business during the day and then there is Wanchai to dwindle away the evening hours. Some decent Irish bars there and the selection of food available is also great.
I can't say firsthand since I haven't been to every city in the world but its the greatest city I've ever been too. Give me a chance to visit every city in the world and it will probably still crack my top 5..
Nobody has mentioned the topography yet so I will. It's got mountains, beaches and urban landscape all rolled into one. If there was just snow skiing and surfing, it would be the complete package.
The only downside is you have to work longer hours than most places in the world just to afford it. A 40-hour work week won't cut it down there.
It was worth a visit, but the greatest? Not for me, not by a long way. Too big, too busy, too crowded too humid, too expensive.
The best places I've visited, (in no particular order):
Gabarone - Botswana
Limassol - Cyprus
Edinburgh - Scotland
Savannah, Georgia - USA
Bahrain, - Bahrain
Port Stanley - Falkland Islands
Munich - Germany
Bruge - Belgium
Cochem - Germany
Douglas, Isle of Man (but only for TT fortnight)
What kind of question is this? There can't be a true or false answer to this because it's all opinion based. Anyways, as far as I know I would say No! (!
He he, I said: "far"!
Whoever the thumbs-down trolls are, just focus all of your negativity on this sacrificial post and leave the rest of them alone.
