Q: Hong Kong hostil and shopping?
Hello i will be in hk for the weekend,need somewhere to stay and somewhere to shop for clothes.where is good for a cheap hostil?and where is good for shopping?also is there anywhere in hk that is fun to go to?
That depends on what kind of shopping you are looking for.
Most will go to 2 main areas.
Central : Has some hostels, a little pricier but more foreign stuff, foods and pubs especially.
TST: Cheapest for hostels. Chunking Mansions is a shit hole and scares me but if you are specifically looking for cheap places, thats where you go. Lots of shopping malls within walking range. Higher end stuff. Mid range, They have a ....... i forget the name.. What do you call that mall where you get crappier versions of name brands???? Outlet Mall? Yeah i think thats it. They have one near the China Ferry terminal.
I prefer Mongkok sometimes. Pretty Cantonesey, but much less grimey than TST at night. Hostels and regular hotels are a bit cheaper, but still lots of food options, and they have that temple street market at night. Plus lots of shopping as well.
Generally as a rule for hostels, your not going to see alot of advertising. You just walk into a shitty building and read the list of tenants and usually there will be a guest house on the 13th floor or something.
Have fun! Special Tip: When African crackheads ask you if you want to buy anything special, dont ask them if they have chocolate. You might find it hilarious, but they do not.

haha i dont see why that would matter unless he was a crackhead. Ive met lots of canadian crackheads in China, and I dont take any offense to anything because its true.

Don't forget Causeway Bay which is a shopping and gourmet paradise.

Big fan of Mong Kok and also the neighborhood next to it...you can get perfectly decent 3 star hotel there for around 5-600HKD. Small but clean + respectable.
Don't have to feel like an asshole staying in Chungking.
Tons of great little restaurants as well not too pricy.

If i'm going to Hong Kong by myself i'll always stay at a 3 star place around there.
Nothing fancy, but honestly the difference in price between a real shithole in TST or on the Island and a simple but decent place in kowloon isn't that big.
I hate when people act like staying at Chungking or the other one gives you some kind of expat street cred. That place is inconvenient to get in and out of, not secure to live your stuff in, it smells, its loud and full of jerks and it's dirty.
