Q: Hotel Wifi blocks all foreign websites?

I'm at a nice hotel in Qingdao which offers free wifi, but I noticed that I couldn't access a bunch of pages which I use regularly without vpn. Nothing political mostly car or formula1 related. I also noticed that Chinese websites worked normally. I asked the reception and they just gave an half assed apology and said I can't access foreign websites. I have never encountered anything like this at any hotel in China before, so strange. Anyone encountered something like this before?

And the really weird thing is that two foreign websites do work; Google and CNN...

There is probably a local scare about a local issue.

So they have pushed the button.

Or maybe they are just testing the button.

Can you get the websites you want on your phone, using your sim card?

I had this in a few hotels. Totally awesome when you have 4 hours, you want to prepare a class, you wish to double-check some online references, and it's blocked. Great Firewall, protecting people from knowledge.

A:Wow, you really found that nitpicky talking point that elevates the fossil fuel industry to the same level as the interests of humanity. Isn't it all just a "liberal" scam, if you don't look too closely at the absence of logic? "Yes, it must be. My masters are hinting that that's what I should believe!"

You've made it clear you are consciously ignoring the pollution and global warming. Since your handlers, the conservative establishment whose dismantling of the carbon credit system and environmental destruction you choose to ignore, have made it clear you should bark in this direction, you are eager to please!

Such an admirably domesticated, dependable, subservient human. I'm sure your handlers will throw you a bone while they bring home the bacon for themselves. You're so obedient, you deserve a doggie cookie! Who's a good boy? You are! Yes, you are. U-S-A! Woof woof woof! -- coineineagh
