Q: Hotmail not accessable for two days now. Do you know the reason?

It won't open and now I can't do email.  It's like I've lost contact with humanity.

If it doesn't work soon I'm outa here.

I've had no problems whatsoever. Try deleting all of your cookies and try again.

royceH:

Ok, I'll try that.  Thanks.

How do I do it?  (computers aren't my strong suit}

Is it the same as deleting recent search history?

Sinobear:

Depending on your browser, just go to 'history' or 'security'.

Choose to delete everything (except forms, if you have passwords and user names stored).

It's not only my computer, wife's too.

It could be a 'Xinjiang is a special place thing' and a form of punishment.

They do hack into personal email out here and I have proof of that.

No problem in Guangzhou. Getting hotmail emails to my phone and in Mac Mail.

Nessquick:

than change all your passwords, but install some PAID security programs, as ESET. download it for free and send them theirs 100USD for 3 years, tha you get a activation code. after that, change your all passwords again and set up maximum firewall security.

Mine is working here.  This might make me sound stupid , but im also inept with computers but what the hell.  I couldnt get hotmail to work for weeks, then instead of going to favorites or typing  hotmail.com   i used outlook.com   which is the same thing. And it worked great.

royceH:

Tried that, Mike.  Outlook doesn't open either.

Not happy, Jan.

which browser are you using???  Hotmail isnt blocked man,  unless xinjiang really has tighter holds.  But everywhere else its fine. So you can update your browser, or use another one.  It sounds complicated but if I can do it , you easily can. Just download google chrome, it takes a minute.  I dont use chrome often as i like my old browser but its useful to have and try if a website wont open.

I use Torch.  It's faster than Chrome and, most importantly, allows me to listen to the football with barely an interruption (listening right now....Nth Melb V Hawthorn pre-game.  Game proper will start in 6 minutes).  Chrome won't do that.

I just tried hotmail/outlook on Chrome and the result's the same...won't effn open.

Thanks anyway.  Funny how reliant I've become on email.  So much I want to do, and no way.

Anyhow it's a good game of footy and it's beer o'clock so all's not lost.

 Cheers.

I found access to certain sites depends on location.

during my first semester in China, my hotmail was hacked by you-know-who.

since then i regularly ran top-of-the range anti-virus software and didn't down-load any soft-ware from any site in China.

However, that can not stop email sites being blocked

Update.  My wife has just told me all emails are blocked here, not just hotmail.

Hers, her colleagues at work and her friends.  No one can access email.

So, something's up in Xinjiang, or at least Nth West Xinjiang.

If you find out what, please tell me.  Right, out for dinner.

royceH:

Just found out something more.  It's the anniversary of the big attack in Urumqi about 5 years ago where many people were killed.  At that time the internet was shut down completely, for ages.

Hey royceH,

I had a similar issue this week and did a DNS Flush, cleared history and cookies. Problem solved.

Maybe it was or wasn't the issue, in this place, who knows?

royceH:

Thanks mate but no...I've done that already.  Still blocked.  Day 3 now.  It's Urumqi massacre anniversary day.

Local emails work this morning but anything not Chinese, no.

Sigh....In the words of my wife;  Xinjiang is a special place.

A week now.  Hotmail's still blocked.

So my new question is why?  Any theories?  What's the point, I really want to know.  Who are they punishing?

Any other Xinjiangers out there??

You might be able to try entering an 'https//' protocol before the Internet address. This sometimes bypasses minor shutdowns. Otherwise I would recommend going for Firefox (one of the safest browsers) with the best anti-spyware programs you can find and hope this works. Final way out would be to just get a free proxy or paid VPN online.

Hope this will work for you RoyceH

royceH:

Thanks mate.  I tried the http thing, no luck.

Can you recommend a VPN to buy?  How much are they?  I've never thought about getting a VPN before but I guess now the time has come.

I don't use a VPN as I haven't figured out how to make an online payment from my Chinese bank account yet myself. But as to what I have heard, Astrill is pretty good and stable a VPN.

A:You can still skin into China as a non-English native teacher by holding English Teaching license in your home country.2nd: Your BA degree should be completed in a native English country. Once, you fulfilled these 'parameters', you qualify for an English teaching job in China as a non-native English sneaker with Z - Entry/Working visa with Working and Residence permit later on. See the last 'Answers Highlight' ---> there is a web link posted about 'requirements for teaching English language in China as a non-English native passport holder'. https://www.gooverseas.com/blog/guide-teaching-english-china#paragraph-item-63614-target

*English proficiency: Passport from one of seven "native speaker" countries (US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and South Africa). If you aren’t a native speaker, you’ll need to be a certified teacher in your home country with proof of your English proficiency (e.g. IELTS or TOEFL). I'd say, Chinese will choose and look especially for a native English speaker at teaching of English Literature job openings. Posted job adverts for English Literature teaching are most likely from International Schools in China. Good luck! -- icnif77
