Because no one would help clean it up. The host would have to clean up everything afterwards. Besides, I don't think people get as crazy, it's not really a Chinese thing to do. If it's a party, they seem to like having activities or some kind of plans. There's nothing like a casual get together type of party, although that's what a dinner may be like. The few Chinese parties I went to were more like a talent show with a few silly games mixed in. Drinking a lot may gain you face, but going crazy and doing something you'll regret? Not so much.

Have you seen just how small most peoples homes are? It would be very uncomfortable to host more than  4 or 5 people AND keep them fed AND comfortable AND imbibing in libations.  KTV or private dining rooms take care of all of the above. Yes, it can be pricey but  then you dont need to worry about the above.

If young people have a house their either married or living with their parents. The places they live are just too small for house parties.

I have been to quite a few hotel room parties though.
