Q: housing accomodation problems

My school is providing free accomdation for the duration of my teaching contract .They will pay the first three months of rent upfront but want to collect a rental deposit of 1800 rmb close to the first amount of rent. How can i get the school to pay the deposit instead of me paying it up. How would I negiotate with them about this issue when they should provide the accomdation for free what to do.

if you are being asked to pay for 'free' accommodation, it is not free. What did your contract say about this? is there any mention about you having to pay? crying

EDIT: are they in breach of contract already????

Get out of there. They are looking to get money from you already. Not a way to engender trust from your employees.

I have some friends who work for a school in Hebei, they had to pay one months rent deposit on the apartment in case they broke anything. It was taken from their first months salary.

I think it's quite reasonable if you think about it. Why should the school have to foot the bill if you break something.

sorrel:

it depends on what is in the accommodation. In any of the accommodation i have seen for foreigners, there was very little to break/damage. In fact there was more to be fixed before the places were livible.
