Q: How and where do I get internet in Shanghai?
I am clueless. At my old apartment I had a TP_Link router/modem in my apartment for Internet. I am in a new apartment and I do not have any Wifi yet. I went to China Telecom and applied but the technicians have to drill a hole in the wall. My landlord does not want a hole in the wall so she told me to cancel the order. Does anybody know how and where I can buy a wireless modem/router and get unlimited monthly internet? I need it ASAP.
Don't buy the Internet in Shanghai. It's probably fake. Buy the internet in Hong Kong. Hong Kong the internet has webpages too.
Or of course you could get enough points and win the ecc internet!
Get a 4G mifi box. Portable mobile wifi...a lot of the time quicker than home internet
The fastest way is get an unlimited phone card from China Unicom which also gives you unlimited wifi usage, costs you rmb 200 monthy. (China Telecom doesn't have that, but have a daily rental card which you pay rmb 1.5, gives you 512 Mb for daytime usage and 1Gb for night). Hopefully your phone has two card-slots.
It depends on your usage, really. If you do a lot of internet work, like searching for info and watching videos definitely go for the unlimited option unless you want to get a heart attack when the phone bill arrives.
Then turn your phone into a wifi hotspot, sharing the signal at home with your pc / ipad. Needless to say use a password so no one can tap into your signals.

China's quantum satellite in big leap
The term "spy satellite" has taken on a new meaning with the successful test of a novel Chinese spacecraft. The mission can provide unbreakable secret communications channels, in principle, using the laws of quantum science. Called Micius, the satellite is the first of its kind and was launched from the Gobi desert last August. It is all part of a push towards a new kind of internet that would be far more secure than the one we use now. The experimental Micius, with its delicate optical equipment, continues to circle the Earth, transmitting to two mountain-top Earth bases separated by 1,200km. The optics onboard are paramount. They're needed to distribute to the ground stations the particles, ...
Before sensitive information is shared between shopper and online shop, the two exchange a complicated number that is then used to scramble the subsequent characters. It also hides the key that will allow the shop to unscramble the text securely.
The weakness is that the number itself can be intercepted, and with enough computing power, cracked.Quantum cryptography, as it is called, goes one step further, by using the power of quantum science to hide the key.As one of the founders of quantum mechanics Werner Heisenberg realised over 90 years ago, any measurement or detection of a quantum system, such as an atom or photon of light, uncontrollably and unpredictably changes the system. This quantum uncertainty is the property that allows those engaged in secret communications to know if they are being spied on: the eavesdropper's efforts would mess up the connection.

Easy solution. If you have a balcony, have the internet service installer route the cable to a spot (without drilling a hole), adjacent to the closest electrical receptacle on the balcony. He can place and connect the wireless modem there. If the area is subject to rain, then place the router in a large enough plastic food or storage container to allow some heat dissipation. If you need a detailed drawing PM me. Good luck.
You can use my Internet for free for the exchange of letting me use your washing machine for laundry. lol
My landlord doesn't want me to move a laundry machine in. Suck

Which device you need internet on? For smartphones, you can simply purchase a mobile SIM, subscribe to their data plan and start using internet. And for more devices, you can make a hotspot. Going ahead, you can also use internet through public wifi routers that would probably available in your hotel as well.
