Q: How to avail working visa in China? What are the requirements?

I'm applying for a teaching job in China. I would like to inquire how to acquire working visa. I believe that it would be best if I'm already visa holder once I arrived in China.

You're clearly not a native English speaker, so unless you have an advanced, specialized degree in math or science, you're unlikely to be eligible for a work visa. Just as well - it has become an intensive, soul draining process that has effectively caused a shortage of highly qualified native English speakers in China, while allowing "teachers" from Africa and Russia to come in on special visas and teach English with thick and often unintelligible accents. Very few professional teachers are wiling to go through the tedious and overly complex steps needed to get the work visa.

Unless you have a degree from an English speaking country, you cant get a work visa. And even if you have all this....everything should be done within your home country. Are you from a native English speaking country?

"How to avail working visa"....that does not sound like something a native speaker would say.

Just going by what you wrote... I don't think you can get a working visa to teach English. You could teach other subjects like math or science ect....to teach English though you will have to do that on a tourist or business visa or something other than a work visa. This is just my assumption.

Yes you are correct. You should enter on a Z visa only if you intend to work. Changing any other category into a work permit is basically impossible nowadays once you are here. Do it right, be legal and enjoy your stay.

When you apply for the jobs you'll see the requirements.

If you meet the requirements and the school wants to hire you they'll send you a letter of invitation that allows you to apply for a Z visa. The Z allows you to enter the country and then the school takes over and gets you a working permit and residence permit.

Hotwater:

Invitation letters haven’t been needed for a few years now. The emailed notification of foreigner work permit is all that’s required for a Z-visa now.

Well you find a company that wants to employ you on a work visa and together with them submit necessary documents to the labor bureau and apply for the work permit.

If you’re eligible for a work visa, with the help of the company you will get it.
You can check your eligibility by counting the points (picture below). You gotta aim for a category B, and for that you need to get around 60 points.

Categories:

  • Class A (Talent - encourage),
  • Class B (Specialty - control),
  • Class C (Normal - restrict).

Getting a C-category work visa is not a desirable situation, so if you don’t reach 50–60 points, better not to even try.

Good luck!
