There is a large African population in Guangzhou but the numbers quoted vary widely. There's also supposed to be a significant proportion illegally here (visa overstay).

Personally I've heard nothing about gangs. There used to be a few guys a number of years ago who hung around one particularly busy area selling drugs.

The only time there was any reported trouble was after one guy died after a run in with the police (after an argument with a taxi driver). There was a big protest outside the police station about his death.

It's bad man, I've been there and seen it, these guys are on edge, lookin over their shoulders 24/7, moving or trading living areas if they feel targeted by Chinese police. Even there is a group learning Chinese so the men or women can have a chance to marry a chinese to stay in China legally. It's bad and truly a desperate situation now. I have no idea why China just sits around doing nothing!

It could range from being not a problem at all to being a massively serious situation.

The Apex Gang that Phil mentioned have been quite violent in the past, and so serious 'gang' situation... Does GZ have this kind of problem, or is it more just people staying in the country illegally?

Hotwater:

No GZ doesn't have this problem. If there was an African gang problem the police would be all over it and it would be reported all over the news.

mofiki_kobana:

I don't think there is a big problem with illegal migration from Africa in China. Most Africans who come to GZ already have some money to invest, so in most cases they have no visa problems.

A:You can still skin into China as a non-English native teacher by holding English Teaching license in your home country.2nd: Your BA degree should be completed in a native English country. Once, you fulfilled these 'parameters', you qualify for an English teaching job in China as a non-native English sneaker with Z - Entry/Working visa with Working and Residence permit later on. See the last 'Answers Highlight' ---> there is a web link posted about 'requirements for teaching English language in China as a non-English native passport holder'. https://www.gooverseas.com/blog/guide-teaching-english-china#paragraph-item-63614-target

*English proficiency: Passport from one of seven "native speaker" countries (US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and South Africa). If you aren’t a native speaker, you’ll need to be a certified teacher in your home country with proof of your English proficiency (e.g. IELTS or TOEFL). I'd say, Chinese will choose and look especially for a native English speaker at teaching of English Literature job openings. Posted job adverts for English Literature teaching are most likely from International Schools in China. Good luck! -- icnif77
