Chinese is one up...... Police get good money and if they get caught accepting bribes then they loose the GOOD pension they would get on retirement. For Chinese this is very important.

You have to decide how much you are going to give way before.

As a guideline:

- breaking traffic rules: 100-300 RMB
- caught stealing: 300-500 RMB
- beating up a hooker: 800-1000 RMB
- drunkenly assaulting another police officer: 15,000+ RMB (although this can be lowered if they all hate that police officer that you beat up, because it will give them a great story to tell for many years back at the police station! So I only had to pay 8000 when I did it, and actually became great friends with the policemen!)
- murder: 50,000+

Remember that bribing a copper doesn't absolve you of the crime, it just makes that one policeman (or group, if you bribed a bunch of them) turn a blind eye. You could still be on the run from the authorities, so sometimes it's better to bribe a government official or judge, who are even more susceptible to accepting bribes.

If you are bribing a policeman, just stuff the money into an empty cigarette box and hand it to him. He will know. When bribing a Government official or judge, you need to do it in a formal setting, like in a hotel lobby or a fancy restaurant. Put the money in an expensive looking leather bag, and leave it on the seat next to the person you want to judge. When you finish your meal/conversation, you smile at each other and he will walk away with the bag. Simples!

what you think about ! chinese police is a most incorrupt career in china ever. they would always catch the criminals. they always protect citizen, they would never take any bribes. and they would never accpet money from gang. and they would never protect prostitutes and gambles. they would never beat people for the developers and of course above this description is not true. Cool

Ludovico's answer is priceless. I'm doubting his numbers aren't far from the truth either:

breaking traffic rules: 100-300 RMB
- caught stealing: 300-500 RMB
- beating up a hooker: 800-1000 RMB

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
