Q: How can a Black Guy from America work in China?

I've applied for so many jobs here, and the first question they tend to ask is, Are you White or Black? Or I would see in the 'Job Requirements' section : Caucasians Only

It depends on the type of job you are looking for.  If you want to teach English, then your best bet would be to either come to China and pound the pavement, or make some friends online who are teachers and have them introduce you to their schools.  Truth is, if you aren't white, finding a job here can be really difficult if you don't posses rare skills.

Strange...we all know how hard it is for an equally qualified black man to get a job here, yet people still ask "what is more racist US or China?"

I would say, because you're black, you have more chances in doing trading between China and some African countries, or try to work for some Sino-africa tradre-related organizations or companies.
For Chinese, even if they watch American movies, Black people are still considered mainly as people from Africa and a school or a company would prefer to show a white face in front of their students, parents or customers.
Also, you're not in US or in Europe, where they are laws against racial discrimination...here you're in China and in China there is officially no "discrimination" or "racism".
You choose the wrong country.

You don't want a job teaching English as a black person . Even if you found a school that hires black people (like I did) that in no way means the parents like black people or want black people teaching their children. It doesn't stop children from screaming when they see you or acting like idiots because the country that supposedly is going to surpass the U.S. (sarcasm) doesn't know a thing about black people .

XpatJohn is right... find some rare skills you have that are valuable to a company here or develop some skills and look for a more specialised job . Trust me it's better . I'm leaving my job to study Chinese at a university .... I like it so much more !

listen i teach at one of the top universities in jiangxi, im a black american as well my pay is the same as everyone else here 6100 monthly plus im gonna make 20,000rmb in ot this semester. you can easily find a job whereever you want you just gotta do the work yourself and contact schools recruiters are lazy. if you dont have experience go to a place like hohhot inner mongolia university of finance and economics is hiring. get your 2 years experience behave yourself dont talk slang like a rapper and enjoy the women. devil

by the way, one of the teachers here from africa won a provincal award for best foreign teacher because the students loved him. so any place that wont hire you becoz of your skin color phuck em and move on there are plenty of jobs dont settle for less

bennyfulltrack:

That sucks, 6100 in a "TOP UNIVERSITY" (What's in the name. Definitely not the money!). You better go to a kindergarten and act as a clown for 10/12K a month and the Mums are smoking hot too. Every Mexican in 'Merica earns more. Jzzzzzzzzzzz..........................

crimochina:

lets do some math 6100 monthly (5) 30,500 + 20,000OT 50,500rmb /5 equals monthly salary of 10,000rmb for doing piss easy work in china . mexicans working in merica make more but i live better and put 10,000us into savings each year. plus kindergarten teachers work longer hours and working with kids is exhausting and annoying. 2 months off in the winter 2 months off in the summer. this is a public university so there are fewer worries. i got a huge well furnished apartment for free (2 balconies, too bedrooms a full kitchen, big living room, real shower) i think i will keep this job

I was studing in World English school, the manager there refused to hire black teacher.I think that is stupid.China has a lot of discriminations. Many yellow skin people think they are the first class.

Man,if you have the ability, open a company later in China,be a boss. Can register a company from Hongkong seems like costing less money. Here in Shanghai, many young foreign men opened their own office. Or search JOYY English,I saw they have black employee. The boss was an translator for chinese government.I saw JOYY is in Shanghai.

Cromochina got that right!

Cost of living here is cheap. 1000 USD goes a loooong way!

But since this CHinese economy is a house of cards, I have to ask.....'I wonder how much longer that is going to last"?

Xpat.John:

I have been asking myself that same "how long can it last" question for years. I think as long as they can keep a lid on currency valuation, they can milk it for at least 10 more years.
