I have friends and family all over the world and we keep up to date on each others "happenings" on Facebook?

You will need to get a VPN (Virtual Private Network) to access Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and other sites that are blocked by China.
If you do a search on Google for "VPN" you will find all sorts of options for all sorts of budgets/operating systems.
You need to get freegate. You can't get it online, but someone should have it on their computer and you can put it on a USB
If you pick the wrong VPN, they will send you nasty threats when you try to download pirated material. Also, Freegate blocks Adult content.
I also use Astrill; I can access absolutely everything.
try free gate and you can get it from some friend you cant download it in here ,so you need some friend to send you this software
I use freegate and it works like a charm and it's free!
You can download it from:
download.cnet.com/Freegate/3000-2085_4-10415391.html
You will have to use www.vtunnel.com to access any of these pages.
At least that's how I got it.
With VPN you get what you 'pay' for, so don't trust the freebies, Caveat Emptor!
Ideally you want a fully encrypted VPN so 'they' cannot monitor your comings and goings. I use Identity Cloaker, 100GBP per annum though. I have also heard TOR is good but haven't tried that.

Couldn't agree more, I use a fully encrypted service that does not keep any records of my activity. Not that it is probably a big deal since nearly everyone in China uses a VPN or proxy so clearly they aren't cracking down anytime soon, but it is better to be fully protected.
VPN Reactor is a good one, though it seems to be a bit touchy with using it on my mobile Android phone. Speeds are excellent though, and they don't bother me considering all the torrents that somehow magically make their way onto my computer. You don't have to sign for 6 months or any of those long term commitments, so give it a try for a month, if you don't like, switch to another. Do not use the free servers, you will only get a poor experience you wouldn't get on a paid server.
Facebook and other social channels are very difficult to access in China. However, if you are using a VPN provider and still you can't connect yourself to Facebook, I will suggest you to check out the best VPN providers who really works great in China from http://www.bestvpnservice.com/.
From bestvpnservice you can get the best VPN provider that can fulfill all your basic needs to access you favourite social media websites.
I voted Astrill still. My husband and I sometimes use Freegate too, but like what they say, freebies can't guarantee most of the time, you just don't wanna get screwed up when you really in a need of something that rely on vpn service..
find some software in chinese called FANQIANG, means overpass the wall. looking on google. name seemed called WUJIEWANG .
Its called a VPN or Virtual Proxy Networks and you can get one by Googling for "Vidalia" or "FreeGate".
Just use VPN (Virtual Private Network) then you can access on Facebook
Use a VPN. I use HighspeedVPN because they had few good plans. Its quite good service wise.
You can try www.securitales.com
It works very well for me, and it's very easy to sign up. No need to download anything which is what I was looking for. You can access Facebook and Twitter, etc.. I hope that you find what you are looking for. Being blocked from the internet is not fun...
Why do people still answer these questions, especially by posting the names of the VPN services here? Are you aware that you are simply helping the gov't to track and shut down the VPNs?
woody:
Why would posting the name on here make any difference. Do you think the Chinese government are that stupid or don't have the technology to do a simple Google search for VPN services
try to find "FreeGate" it helps to access facebook, youtube and bla bla bla
you can read this blog and decide what works for you to unblock Facebook in China http://www.how-to-access.com/how-to-access-facebook-in-china
