You can't.
You actually need to get a Chinese driving license which requires taking a written and practical test. The written test is available in English, but it won' help you. It's like 1,350 questions or something.
Here's a link to an (old) version of the test: http://www.shekouonline.com/drivingtest.html
Good luck!
You have to sit the writen test in English forget how many questions but its a percentage of the 1350 answers you have to memorize. Reason is most of the answers are lost in translation and do not make sense or wrong? Then think of the parking problems and what will happen if you or when you crash and perhaps cannot speak Chinese. Can you control yourself not to kill other drivers in China? Think albout bikeriders and pedestrian behavior when you kill one you go to jail a long time if you cannot pay money still want to drive here?
Other thing you can do is ask a few friends and buy a license just like most of the locals do no need to drive if you can ride a bike your ok.

you go down and take the written test its 100 questions and you have to score a 90 the test is in english i took a person that already past the test with me to help and scored 97 hope that helps
You wouldn't be able to convert your international license into a chinese one. You would need to get a totally separate license from the one you already have. The reason why you would need to take the license exam in China is because the laws on the road can be different. Certain things like how fast you can drive through a neighborhood, how fast you can drive on the open road etc., will all vary accordingly.
Your gonna have to find the DMV in the province your at and take the written and probably the driving test.
You are only allowed to drive fleet vehicles on an international DL, you will need to take the written and driving exam but they are more lienent if you already have obtained a International drivers license. You are allowed to take a translator with you to the written exam.
The International Drivers License is not accepted in China to drive, nor the one from your original country.
To get a Chinese driver's license, you must be under 65 years of age, and pass a physical exam (maybe only eye exam) in some cases. If you have a valid license from your home country, you will only be required to pass the written exam. That will be 100 multiple choice questions, you must answer correctly above 90 to pass. Some localities have exams in English form, but translation is not the best and could confuse you further. If written exam is in Chinese, you are allowed to bring an interpreter with you, and in many cases will tell you the right answer besides interpreting.
Only if you do not have a valid license from your home country you must also take the practical.
You need to go to the Vehicle Administration Office of the Beijing (assuming you are here) Municipal Public Security Bureau in order to effect the change.
Why did I get thumbs down on my post LOL. HappyExpat is correct it's only 100 multiple choice questions and the interpretor usually tells you the correct answers, hell, the officer administering me the exam told me more than half of them.
For those of you who do not know what a fleet vehicle means: It means you can rent a car from a legit. rental company that can provide the insurance needed to drive in China.
Damn, did I say legit again, come on Tech, you're in China
