Q: How can I find out if a school is licensed to provide an invitation letter?
I have been offered a teaching job in Guangdong province. The school, during the interview, said that they have the license to request an invitation letter. How can i verify this? I once found a list online of all of the schools in China that had this right...but I cannot find it now :(

Your school should send you the relevant official documentation - all stamped (3 different documents in my case : Working Permit, Confirmation Letter of Invitation and Invitation Letter) for you to take with you when you apply for the Visa. I was told to keep 2 of them for when i registered with the police.

Yes, but suppose they say they can do this in the interview, but really can't? How do I know before I accept the job that they can't do it? I was burnt once :(

I made it clear to potential employers that if they were unable to provide the required official documentation (as outlined above) I would consider them in breach of contract and it would be invalid. When I got the 3 documents, I scanned them and asked a Chinese friend - who is a lawyer - his opinion on them, he was satisfied they were legitimate. Two of them contain the name and address of my school, which could have been checked by the Chinese visa office.

You could also try to reach (phone) SAFEA (Foreign Expert Bureau) in the city, and ask them if School can hire FT. You might need Chinese translator for phone call to SAFEA.
