Internships are a con. If you can teach, apply for teaching jobs.

If you can do anything, apply for any job.

Why people scramble over unpaid jobs is beyond me.

If you are really really really want an internship.... you need pay for it. Loads of people happy to take money from you for that honour.

expatlife26:

Well you're old you don't get it.

It's a shit fact of life now, either you jump through a million BS hoops to get experience to get a "real" career going

OR

You take a "free" job like flipping burgers or teaching ESL that doesn't require experience and lock yourself out of earnings potential in the future.

It's a shit choice. I'm lucky I didn't have to. But honestly if nobody was hiring fresh grads and your priority is having a career path it's better than doing nothing or teaching english EVERY time.

I started off cutting grass and sweeping leaves at age 17. When I was made redundant at age 30 I worked as a kitchen porter washing dishes, washing cars at a garage, and packing in a warehouse. Not quite flipping burgers, but when I was in the kitchen I did work my way up to frying the eggs :) I actually enjoyed it. pretty stress free compared to now. Such as life. start at the bottom. If you take a beating, start at the bottom again. I was not getting paid much for flipping eggs, but I was getting paid :)

Chinese won't send reply, if they're not happy with your CV, or if they can't accommodate you. Never mind! Keep applying.

Good luck!

By knowing French or English you can work for everything?  I highly doubt it.  I'm also looking, but keep in mind it is very difficult here.  Websites like this are a good start but when you consider the number of people applying for the few good spots...  You might be better off making friends with more people in your own city, wherever you are.

As Scots said....an "internship job" isn't a job. Jobs pay salaries, internships claim to give you training and experience but are just a way for companies to get some free labour to do their donkey work for them. Biggest scams going in my view.

I blame Monika Lewinsksy. Nobody knew what an internship was before she blew it :)

The same way everyone else does... look at job offers or talk to people in your social group.

However... internships in China are horrible...

I wouldn't do it.

Internships are designed by the elite rich parents to block smart poor kids out of the career ladder. The rich parents know their mediocre offspring can't compete against others in a real market, so they buy into it.

They buy their kids a job. Meanwhile, the smart poor kids are flipping burgers to pay the rent and put food on the table.

An internship is a silver plated axe hacking away at social mobility.

If you are a conservative, don't forget..... this is what you and your parents voted for.

Wasn't there a big thing in the news a few years ago about university students on 'internships' in China essentially being free labor for manufacturing companies?

Unpaid internships are scams.  Don't be a sucker, if you NEED an internship, find a paid one.

jetfire9000:

That example is hilarious and I feel bad for those students and would definitely put the blame on the university for thinking they could pursue internships as if it is also simple question of outsourcing. Ugh. Anyway unpaid internships are definitely not scams. The very point of an internship is that you are a promising ( yet professionally unqualified) individual who gets work experience and knowledge because your entry level ( or lower) skills won't do the trick by themselves. It's not a rip off and you can use that experience you get to renegotiate your terms with that firm or go find another paying job.  Voila.  The key is filtering out the real internships from the fake ones.  Are you gonna intern in an english company?  I lol every time I see those ads.  Gosh why would anybody do that.  Hmmmm. Anyway internships need to be researched.  Even in the U.S., Hershey's was apparently using chinese intern students ( who were part of a paid internship) to pack their chocolate and move their crates from one end of the factory floor to the other.  Ouch.

A:I ain't sure if this will help, but I used to say ...:"Don't stop sending your CVs, not even if you already have an interview invitation!" MS degree is completed online ... That might be the reason 'cause I don't think employer in China can secure legal Working permit by presenting degree completed online. TEFL Course completed online was/is acceptable, but I'm not sure about your MS ... Have a look at the requirements for Z visa in China ...  Good luck! -- icnif77
