never spend money and never give personal info until you have met the person and know them. of course even if you meet them it could still be a con, but hey if you have met them then it is about the same risk as if you had not met online. so just be wary about who every one you meet online.

Just expanding what Jiliu said, a sure sign of a con is if they ask for money. If they do, RUN!

have sex with them and use a condom. you will never feel cheated even if they ask for money afterwards.

Hopefully, by being wiser than they may be, and by thinking and looking for Red Flags with the head that has hair on it, not the other one.

Fortunately, there are not too many bright persons doing these things, and they do not come up with new schemes overninght.  There are basically a few of them, and the variants are always who the one sick, or in the hospital, or on a death bed is.

If you are interested, Google for "Red Flags in website Dating" and read thru them, and as you correspond, be on the look out for similar occurances.

I would say that anyone that replies to an email for the first time, and either on that one or the next tells you she loves you and wants to become your GF, she is one worth being a bit suspecious of.  And if she ask for money for wahtever reason before you two meet in person, she is a con artist.  I had a friend who actually met the Lady in Shanghai, and they had known eachothyer for almost one year.  She came up with the story that her father needed an operation to save his life, and even named the hospital.  My friend wired her the money.  When I heard about it, I had my GF call the hospital, and there were no patients by his name admitted there, and there were no kidney removal cancer that were operated within the last 60 days.  Confronted with this, she admitted stealing the money for herself, since my friend had spent one week with her at a hotel room.  He was really devastated, he really cared for her.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change student visa to labourer one is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
