Q: How can I search for an apartment (long-term) in Xi'an online?

My husband and I are moving to Xi'an in May 2014 for initially 3 years. We are going to work around the area of Furong Lake and would like to rent a property either around there, or outside the city in a place with nice views.

Any advice would be very welcome

Thanks

I would initially ask your employer to help you get a place to live, maybe for a month or so until you have settled in. Then once you become more used to the city, find a place you will be more happy to live in for the remainder of your time in Xi'an . Trying to get a place sight unseen might not be a good idea and leave you open to being scammed.......

Alternatively, any poster who already lives there might know of a suitable location.

Get a friend who read/write Chinese to look at soufun.com.

A few villas are situated (South) at the foot of the mountains of Xian transport is nearly nonexistent if you choose to live in that area. Few of my friends live in Gaoxin area which is the main CBD which has most things foreigners want to have.

Prices on Soufun will never be real, those prices are 2 or 3 years before.

Just go to the subway or take a bus thats near your work and try to find interesting areas and adventure to look for an apartment.

I use to get out of every subway station before I got  car just to see what was up stairs.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change student visa to labourer one is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
