Q: how can a non native english speaker get a job

I am a young lady from a small country in Southern  Africa called Botswana, I am struggling to find an English part time job in Shanghai. English is not my mother tongue but its an official language in our country and our education system is English based,so our English proficiency level is excellent further more were colonized by the British hence English being the second language in our country.

you will have to keep applying for jobs advertised. Persistence is the key and you will eventually find one. Good luck !

Shanghai is not easy place to land a job, either for Native or Non-native teacher, IMO.

I mostly look for part-time job in person. I've never had to show my CV or passport at any part-time job I had. Just tell them you're from South Africa, what place you in 'Native English teacher column'.

You must make sure students like you at your 'trial class'. I agree with posts above, you must be persistent, and walk the road daily. When you are at Schools, talk to FT there about part-time job openings. 'Looking for job' is personal experience, so it is very difficult to advice 'how to land part-time job'.

I (Non-native) also use placement agents, when I am looking for part-time job.

Good luck!

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
