Go to the psb, show them your tourist visa and proof of employment. They will then change the visa to the correct one. On the spot.

Most of the time, you can't. If your school has the appropriate connections, this can be done... but most schools don't have said connections.

If anyone says to come teach on a tourist visa, they're morons. They're also lying to you, and you could be banned from China for up to 5 years for breaking this law.

You can search a job and give interviews on a tourist visa. Once you are hired you have to go back to your home country to obtain a Z (Work) Visa. The rest, follow Hulk's comment.

ironman510:

I wanna remind everyone that Hong Kong still gives out Z visa's to foreigners that arrive there with an invitation letter addressed to the HK government and that the foreigners passport is from a country with a high class government. No problem. Wall Street English does this every year, never seen a rejection, only if there was a document issue.

You are right about that but the OP's still looking for a job. If he has already obtained one then he/she can get Z visa from Hong Kong. His question ends with,' to obtain a job'.

That's why you end it with a solution so he knows how to ask the right questions to a new employer.

I wouldn't even think of trying it. It's very dangerous. But I tell you not to discourage you rather to encourage you find a  safer way, legal one, to get employed in China.

ironman510:

It's not as dangerous as you make it sound. Just don't be stupid and don't use an agent. There's no harm in trying it in Hong Kong, if he fails ok a quick trip home for Z visa will do.

You would have apply to work in a Primary or Middle school in Shenzhen, China, because these schools are government owned and they can send you to Hong Kong to with an invitation letter that is addressed to Hong Kong, which is the key to obtaining a Z visa in Hong Kong, and a handful of private schools and training centers in Shenzhen seem to have no problem getting a Z visa in HK as long as the invitation letter is correct and you've got your original Degree with you(not a copy) and at least a TEFL.

Seems to be harder in other cities outside of Guangdong province.

Apparently you can't , in China. Have to go to your home country to do it.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
