Q: How can you tell if Chinese girls holding hands are lesbians or just friends?

You can't...almost all Chinese girls hold hands at some point with their girlfriends.
Have you seem Chinese guys holding hands? Do you think they are all gay?
It's a cultural thing.
In fact I find it annoying when I am out with my gf and her friends and she holds one of their hands (or arms) instead of mine. Is she gay? No...but that would interesting if she was (bi).
Many, maybe even most girls in China hold hands with their girlfriends but they're not gay. However, if there are four hand-holding girls strung out across the sidewalk like some sort of daisy chain, they're gay.
More importantly, why do you want to? What has their sexuality got to do with you?

This is so easy. It's because one of the girls holding hands looks like a boy or tries to look like a boy. That's the easiest way I can tell if they are lesbians or not. Here in China I've noticed that a lot. If I see two girls that look like girls or are dressing like each other like they've gone shopping together than they are friends.
ask them to kiss you, if they refuse then they are lesbians
follow them home, then peek through the keyhole.

I've never seen a likeable looking licker. I think thats a fantasy for porns. Usually they appear to be bad looking guys with even more bitchyness. One of the Ls that lives on my street looks like Gollum from LOR, dresses the same too, and I never get a look at her, cause she scurries off, acts like him also.

I think it would be a fairly tell tale sign that they were gay, if you followed them for a bit and waited for them to kiss. However you would most likely also be arrested for stalking.
Seriously though, women hold hands in all countries. In Egypt the men hold hands with each other. I will never forget my first visit to Aswan whilst in a police escorted convoy. We pulled over for checks. As I woke up from a rather bumpy sleep, I looked out the window to see two men, one was carrying a 9mm Beretta, and the other what looked somewhat like an AK47 over his shoulder. They were both holding hands casually, whilst having a smoke and a chat.
I was not sure what to think at the time, but I later learned that it is a cultural thing.
I would suggest if you know the women holding hands, you could always just ask them. The worst thing that could happen is a slap in the face lol.

If they're holding hands in public, they're definitely not lesbians. All gays keep their activities quiet in China. I've neverr met any, but they're here.

I have actually met gays/lesbians in a real small city less than 500,000 people. They know I am an American and they know generally we don’t care so they freely told me. I have a student who is clearly gay and as far as I can tell all the students are ok with it at least the ones in his class. If you live in a nation with a massive gender imbalance then you really should expect more than normal male on male action. Add to this the amount of men with an extra girlfriend and it becomes even worse for those with no money etc. I am guessing many of the men aren’t really gay, but just getting it where ever they can. As far as the girls go, well it perhaps runs along a more normal trend line to slightly less considering the social pressures to conform and raise the next revenue source. One odd fact I don’t quite understand is the amount of young girls who are really into “BL” comics. For those who don’t know “BL” stands for (boy love) I have a group of roughly 6 girls in one class that wanted to spend the entire class talking about it. Of course I deflected their questions by asking if the thought girl love was ok, they mostly say no. I would actually love to understand their fascination, but I am fairly sure discussions of this nature would be heavily frowned on

Well, as a Chinese girl,sometimes i do hold my friend'S hand . It just showing we are close friends. For most of the cases, I think it's just friends.
Why not ask, "how do you tell if someone gay by looking at them?" Or, "How do you tell about someone's sex life by looking at them?" This question is just ignorant. Maybe they don't want you to know everything about them. They just like holding each other's hands.
If you see then performing sexual acts on each other they are usually lesbian.
In Chongqing its chock full of lesbians! The bar I frequent is half lesbian, good crowd unless they start fighting, then I get a free bitch fight!!
