Q: How to check if money is counterfeit?

I have not yet been denied any RMB notes, but am just curious how to check if the bill is fake.

Mostly concerned about the 100RMB note.

Thanks

the most common notes are the 50 and 100. Best way to check is the watermark should be a clear picture of Mao on both sides. The feel of the note as well. Also on the Mao facing side of the notes his hair and collar should have a rough feel to it and in the corner of the mao side you will find a red (100) green (50) dot if you rub the dot on a white rough surface some color will come off meaning it is real while if it no color it is most likely a fake.

Take a real bill and a fake one and focus on them for five minutes and touch them over and over again.........you will know the difference by yourself........explanation takes time and might complicate things up for you

A few years ago there was a huge amount of almost perfect counterfeit 100RMB bills running around, mostly in Southern China.  The only way (other than hi-tech) you could tell was by looking at the serial number.  If it started with "HD90", then it was a fake.

There is also a good article on what to look for here:  http://english.rednet.cn/c/2009/01/16/1691024.htm

However, I should add, that after 6 years and a LOT of 100RMB notes passing through my hands, I have only seen 1 fake.
