actually it was freezing up until yesterday. i called the maintenance people for this complex to ask why it was so much colder than last year. i have the under the floor heating system. they came and found that one of the hot water pipes was really corroded and replaced it. now it's a thousand times better.
My AC is on most of the time, it warms my little room pretty well. It costs me A LOT though. .
Our bedroom is 20C, we have a space heater that keeps it that way (it's only 10C outside so not as bad as for you guys in the north) Every part of the building is 10C, all concrete, walls and floors. As soon as the heat is off the temperature drops.
5000 years of civilization. Igloos or huts made of elephant shit has better indoor climate than a modern Chinese building.
Our apartment has sunlight from sunrise until mid afternoon, we can see the kitchen window of one of the neighbors. They are wearing big jackets and hats inside. Their apartment gets little sun.<(p>
DrMonkey:
By measuring the speed of the temperature drop till the new 10c equilibrium, you can deduce the thermal efficiency of the insulation. Sounds like the one of bare concrete ^^
Scandinavian:
yup. a properly insulated building, the temperature drop with be a matter of minutes per degree, instead of degrees per minute. It's just concrete, single layer windows that let a lot of wind through. Building is from 2009.
Scandinavian:
yup. Our community has more than 200 buildings, and then there is the community across the street, the one down the street etc.
The lack of insulation is just as bad in summer. As soon as the A/C is off, temperature is back up to outdoor temperature. On the warmest summer nights, the A/C never turns off trying to keep the temp at 26C. (2500 watts of cooling power for about 10 sqrmtr)
last 2 years in the south:
the lowest 30 cm's of all the rooms was always cold in the winter, even with the 1 heater on all the time. I ran everywhere.
This winter in the north, i have a smaller room and a radiator and double glazing (and good maintenance)
Toasty warm
16 degrees without any heating. The master bedroom is oriented south.
20 degrees in the living room with one heater running at half power.
The advantage of the lower thermal inertia of a single house over those stupid solid huge concrete blocks they're used to build here.
I installed in-floor heating. Living in the south, the temp still gets to 0 degrees at night. The bed is warm, sometimes a little too warm, floors and furniture are warm, but the air is cold. So I actually feel warmer when i walk barefoot. I set all zones to 20 degrees. But it's pretty expensive in a large apartment. The guy from the power department came to our house to see if something was wrong because the numbers on our meter were moving so fast. I would guess we are spending about 75yuan a day during the coldest 2 months. I wouldn't recommend electric in-floor heating to anyone. Will probably try the gas heated water in-floor next time.
I have the space heater running all night, so when I wake up, it's warm enough. In Kunming today it's 13 degrees outside, but a lot colder inside. Maybe 3 or 4 degrees without the heat on.
