During lunch time, we sometime go to restaurant not too far from the office. We pass by a KFC, and it's very very crowded, as usual. But I noticed it was so packed that people would eat while standing up. It looks very weird.
I have seen the same when visiting a friend of mine who teach at University. He showed me the cafeteria, and people would also eat standing up.
Why do they have so much determination when it comes to food?
I don't get the link between perseverance and eating, Poutine! Unless you mean they might get discouraged from the crowd volume, throw their hands up in desperation and just starve...
I've had to eat standing up too in certain university cafeteries ( I studied for a few months in Beida). It's really shitty, but you get used to it...you don't have a choice.
And for those of us expats that don't have that 'perseverance', it's very simple, they go home!
No no no, Alva, you are wrong! I think it is great, because eating KFC seems to be fun for Chinese people - at least they love it! - so having the perseverance to do something fun is remarkable!
But even though Chinese people have a lot of fun while eating at KFC, they have to eat standing up. That, on the other hand, is less fun.
I was wondering if the fun in KFC, for Chinese people, overrules the fact they are standing up. Halp?
It's not because it's crowded that it means they have patience. Don't forget they're ready to fight to get first in line! They're fighters!
Poutine, oh you mean as far as being obnoxious,rude,ill-mannered,inconsiderate and arrogant p****s? Why don't you ask them? But then hey..you would hear every excuse under the sun!!!!!!!!!! (No, I'm not talking about ALL Chinese.)
well, I think if you ever want to read about Chinese famines, you will begin to better understand the behavior we witness here, at food places and just in general daily life. I cannot explain it, just best if you look into it on your own.
I'll never forget when my friend's grandfather was telling us about eating grass from the ground and bark from the trees. weird today to see so much waste. it is common to take a giant portion of rice and not finish it. repeat this a few 100 million times a day everyday then maybe one can begin to get a grasp on the amount of edible food discarded (wasted) here EVERYDAY. yes, I know it is recycled as pig/fish food. Still, I maintain food waste here is extreme and can lead to nothing good.
if you have a strong mentality you can look into it yourself-
The practice of “exchang[ing] sons to eat” (yi zi er shi — 易子而食).
Yes, indeed there has been a shift in values, at least by some. Nonetheless, I often see others carry home what they have not eaten so that they can eat it later. I would venture to say that this is more of a one-by-one issue.
My Chinese family has known starvation, not enough food for the family, as recent as the 1980's,,,,, they waste nothing........ I get in trouble if I don't get that last grain of rice from the bowl....... they say, look in the bowl when you are done and that is what your wifes skin is like/will be like.......... if you want your wifes skin to be nice and smooth, eat the rice........ if you want her to be ugly, waste the food..... ... standing in long lines and or standing up to eat is something they will learn, I suspect, is not necessary. ..My wife likes to go to the busiest place in town, 'cause that's where everybody else goes, I like to go to the place half a block away where there are few people and the same products.
why there are always so many people eating in KFC,McDonald's.Most of Chinese are love to eat in those store though there are so many people in line.
