Q: how could I of handled this better?

Bad China day in Australia.
We put a deposit on a bed in Jan and was told it would come in late Feb but didn't and was told many diffrent stories.
well wife and I went in and ssaw them the other day and was told the bed will arrive Mon 12th
Wife is now in China and soits left to me.
I call to find out delivery time.
im told Sunday.
and thats how the fight started.
I catch this girl out on a lie that was most likely not of her making however her boss leaves her hanging out to drive. so she is now very embarrested  and a tear in her eyes.
so now I still dont have a bed and I made the girl cry.
and they will not give me my deposit back.
I do feel sorry for her as what ever happens comes back to her.
but what about the guy paying.
It seams Chinese follow what rule suit them at the time and will sacrfice any body under them
I feel bad for her but how could I have done it better.
I didnt raise my voice and I didn't swear however I was very clear about my greivence.
some of you guys do bussiness with Chinese everyday.
So let me learn from this and tell me what I could have done better.
Im realy trying to be a big boy

MissA:

Phil, if you're doing business/being a customer IN Australia with a company operating in Oz, then our regulation and rules apply! We have consumer protection bodies and laws that can be enforced. Depending on what state you live in, go to the relevent consumer watchdog and make a formal complaint. I think your bed will arrive pretty quickly after that, or a dodgy operation will get caught out: both good outcomes. Not to be too mean to her, but the fact that the girl cried is not relevent to whether your bed arrives or not. "You were mean, no bed for you!" just won't cut it from a legal standpoint at home.

You're doing business with a Chinese business in Australia? They should work to Aussie business practice standards, then.

Or am I also missing something?

philbravery:

you know what its like here going through fair tradeing by the time they answer my conplaint I will have the Bed. but Im tempted that after I get it to ring immagration and tell them the people unloading containers are all over stayers. yes I can be a petty man

Is it common business practice in Australia that the customer is always right? If so, they should abide by that practice and operate their business as such. Being firm and holding someone accountable is never wrong, however, maybe upon finding out her adhering to the company line of it being delivered on Sunday, you could have immediately asked to speak with the manager, and then made him cry.

As standard proceeduce when I'm dealing with sales people, when I hear "no," I alway say, "If you can't help me, let me speak to your manager." Then, if he can't help me, it's "Let me speak with the store manager," etc., until I get the help (or answer) I need.

Shining_brow:

No, not always the customer is always right... but we have systems including mediation, which will look at both sides of the argument... Often, however, the customer is actually right (otherwise they wouldn't be complaining). As MissA said, consumer protection.. and ACCC (Aust Consumer and Competition Commission). Quick phonecalll, quick resolution... which will probably be getting your deposit back... unless they get your bed to you pronto!
