if you want to stick with the company, bring english magazines and newspapers with you and always look happy, the appearance of happiness and success is the best revenge, if its to much trouble, start looking for another job, never a good idea to burn bridges or piss off the boss, so smile and make them angrier. always have a new job before you quit the old one. 

I have seen this before, or at least friends of mine have, and a girlfriend has. It usually comes from guys.

When the comments get back to me they are always much the same. " foreigners think they are better than us" (they had never met me so they wouldn't know either way) or "you worship foreigners" (and not us I assume).

What I take from these comments are this. The guys saying it probably have no self esteem and just assume everyone looks down on them, and deep down they most likely think it's justified. If that's what they think there's a good chance it really is justified. And they're angry about that but don't have what it takes to improve themselves. You remind them of their inadequacies.

So, when you get attitude from those guys and you understand where it comes from, try not to be pissed off even though that's the natural reaction. It's not worth it and they probably deserve your pity more than your anger.

I know what to do.

Ask one of your laowai friends to put on a nice suit and visit your office for a few minutes.

Show him around and introduce him to your dick colleagues.
They will smile and be polite. Have your friend to ask him to give him a tour. He will. Then after they are friendly have your friend leave.

Then when he is gone walk over to your dick colleagues and say " haha you are not a man at all. You talk so mich shit about foreigners but when one is in front of you you are kissing his ass. You shouldnt worship foreigners you know. By the way. Foreigners dont smell bad, but your vagina does mei nv! Haha"

Then go immediately start searching for a new job.

Old saying from the Mafiosi in Sicily. Tells that the best payback is the one that comes with cold, careful planning, and that brings the most horrendous pain to your enemies when they are not expecting it.  It means do not operate/plan your action from your emotions, but from logic.

It is a rough situation. To have an open mind amongst people that want you to close it and conform to their way of thinking really sucks. Here is my solution, do the first and then the second but make sure you have another job lined up. 

- The smart solution (keeping your job): Next time, tell them they were right and join in with them and make remarks as well (like all of the sudden you totally agree with them). Tell them stories about how awful foreigners are and how Chinese are so much better. You will please their ego and have less drama or negative interactions with them. Of course, you don't mean any of it (just bullshit) but it is a form of manipulation. You are manipulating them like the narrow-minded fools they are... to make your life easier. Then when you are ready to quit... 

- The revenge solution (who cares): I like Mike's solution, it is hilarious. Also, you should throw in more things to insult the men and women on the way out. You have to be prepared to burn bridges though... make some remarks to hurt their egos while on the way out. Mike was saying... "see you aren't real men..." cause they don't say things to people's faces. You could throw in foreigners are better in bed (which I have heard from Chinese/foreign girls that they are), are better equipped (which I know, from horrible encounters in the locker rooms). That kind of stuff really pisses insecure men off. It may even piss off the women because their men at home probably last 5 seconds (when they do sleep together) and probably have a xiao san or something and don't even look at their wives anymore.

Vicky, from your forum posts I know you to be strong-willed, proud and opinionated. You can even be smart when you talk of things that are not about you, but that is rare. It's a stark contrast to the average Chinese person, and quite refreshing to witness. But your colleague may be right about you, at least in part. I can imagine that you are vocal about your westernized opinions at the workplace, and that this is extremely unsettling for an old engineer who has always been accustomed to workers wanting peaceful harmony at all costs. People in China are used to receiving compliments about China, which they connect to their own ego. You know this. If you say anything bad about China, you are a foreign agent trying to disrupt harmony, foster instability and incite rebellion in their glorious homeland. They'll be hanging on the phone to whatever snitch line exists to rat you out to the government, and wait with baited breath for the police cronies to drag you away in chains (which doesn't happen *anymore*).

My advice: Tell him, in public or private, that you will try to be less vocal about your opinions, and you hope he will too. In western culture, the person who makes the first move to resolve a conflict is the moral victor, and intelligent people will acknowledge this. In China, you 'gave in' to his demands, and he gains face as a result.

If you are serious about your pro-western attitude, it's time to stop *saying* you are superior, and start *showing* that you might be...

It happens often in China, that when local Chinese associate with westerners in any way (dating, trading, traveling, befriending, etc.), they start to put on airs of superiority. Hong Kongers refer to Mainlanders as "Locusts", Canadian Chinese call them "Lao Zhong" as a funny contrast to laowai. But this kind of behaviour demonstrates your pettiness, not your superiority. Being a better person requires you to let go of childish concepts like guanxi and mianzi, and show that you are motivated by rational, mature, balanced concerns. Right now, you're just a wannabe, but I seriously hope you can learn to *be*. We don't respect wannabes in the west.

These needle dicks and moldy vaginas are saying things to get a reaction. 

Learn to ignore them

Do you have a wife, GF or a family? If you do, then think about them and don't get angry and the rest is easy. I meet guys like this all the time and I just don't even make conversation with them, you don't have too as well. It's a good chance for you to practice self control.

I just read Sorrel's advice and her's (along with ironman510) is the best to follow.  Forget the idea of revenge.  It's hateful, malicious, and petty and will hurt your own character far more than you hurt the other person.  Just do your job and do it well. Actually, if you are talking less and working more, they can't fault you for talking about foreigners. Being successful is the best response to any criticism.  This is similar to the advice given by ambivilentmace with one notable exception:  Don't just appear to be happy.  Don't do those things to spite others.  Really be happy and do the things that make you happy and productive.  Everything else is just distractive nonsense.

Wow,.what is with all the Vicky hating? Vicky do you really need the respect of a stupid old man? A lot of the older generation here are backwards. When you talk about liking foreign men they see it as you saying you don't like China. They don't understand you can love your country and another country at the same time. It is not their fault, they were raised to be stupid and ignorant. Pity him, he will retire soon. Then he will be a nobody sat at home with a beijing bikini.

Some Chinese still live in another age, there are people in Western countries who like Chinese things and culture, some others like what is Japanese, some what's Korean, some what's from Middle Eastern countries, some like what's from India, some what's from African countries.

And nobody shout at them or try to harm them for what they like, this is called modernity and individual freedom. If I live in Germany and want to have a French flag in my living room, drink French wine, eat French food everyday, speak French in my home, no one is going to insult me and even less try to beat me, people couldn't care less, this is what individual freedom is, what you like is your concern, and nobody else's.

Chinese men have serious self-esteem problems and think that they can't compete with foreign men, that's why some of them want every foreigners out of China, so they won't have to compete.

But the same people drive Audi cars, even wealthy Chinese eat at KFC or McDonald's thinking that it is "foreign food", are proud to show off at Starbucks in their suits designed by some Italian designer without forgetting to bring their MacBook Pro, ... worship everything foreign and look down on Chinese things. How ironic.

Also it's widely considered among Chinese men that having a pretty thin blonde blue eyed white girlfriend or wife is the quintessence of life, it is commonly seen as a sign of absolute success, but Chinese women who approach white men are seen as slutty, whores and are shamed in public by the same Chinese men. White men couldn't care less whether white women are dating Chinese, black or arab men, the opposite is also true and white women don't care about who white men are dating.

Conclusion? Chinese men are very insecure.

Just from the other perspective 

My colleagues always judge Chinese in a way like they know everything. Some are bad judgment like Chinese smell bad. Everytime I tried to correct their judgement.But finally I got them pissed off.And they called me a person who worship Chinese things and fawn on Chinese powers.I was enduring those bad name calling from them for keeping the job since they are older employees in the company.(They might speak bad things about me for my boss to fire me)But this afternoon after we finished the work,the old engineer got very angry with me and shouted to me and called me bad name.He said I earn Foreign wage,I live in China but I always like talking Chinese things to him.After that,he call me I should not worship Chinese things and fawn on Chinese powers.It really made me feel bad to work in the company now.He is an engineer here,around 50 years old,in my perspective,my boss won't fire an enginner.But I feel bad to work here with him.What should I do?Quit the job or tell my boss?

There are three people in my office.Three of them are being mean to me,two of them said I worship Chinese things and fawn on Chinese things.Another one is at my similar age,when I told that one girl approached me and tried to seduce me in the bar,she then asked why not seduce others,just you.I bet she thinks that I am act like whore there.

I feel insulted in this fucking company.Should I leave?All of them are originally from poor provinces in China,where generally people are much more traditional and narrow minded.
