Not that I have the money to eat at them, but how do all of these "high-end" (non-Chinese cuisine) restaurants in China's more developed cities like Beijing and Shanghai compare to those found in NYC, London, Paris etc?
Are they about the same, or are they still "second tier" overall? Lord knows their still insanely expensive here...
I can only compare to ones in America. But I feel they are the same.
Of course I'm no expert at eating at places like that. Personally it seems like a waste of money considering the portions you get and the quality of food.
still cheaper and better is to hire chef for cooking in own apartment:
- my friends paid 1500 RMB a evening for a experienced chef and nice waiter (with Chef's tools and top quality plates), plus cost of ingredients off course (about 1000 RMB)
for all evening (over 10 main dishes) with 6 friends it was still a WAY cheaper then in restaurant, and WAY better food, because they could talk with Chef and arrange all the way they like
____
personally I haven't got "big" experience with "top class" restaurant
I prefer to cook by myself
but comparing some decent places in Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Ningbo etc., to same "class" restaurants in Milano, Lyon, Atlanta, etc. (none of them of Michelin list), - food was different, but comparable to relative prices level
