Q: How do Chinese explain napping being healthy?

From my experience, many Chinese in the south of China nap right after lunch. Seeing how they're so gung-ho on health, I'm curious to know how they explain napping being a good thing, especially right after eating.

well simply because the govt says so, which is funny because they will also tell you it is good to go for a long walk after a meal also

Hey I love this practice.
At our factory after lunch (12-1:30) everyone retires to their rooms and naps for at least 1/2 hour.  I myself strench out on the couch in my office and crash out...quite easy as most of the office workers are gone, so all is quite.
I feel deprived when I go home.
I think it has benifits, as I am more alert and sharper after a good power nap.

I used to take a small siesta even in the USA. I would bring my lunch from home and then go to my car for the remaining 20 minutes of my lunch break. Any break to rest from the corporate jungle is great! Nevertheless, I am still amazed for the whole hour, hour and half lunch breaks!! :)

I think it would be better to walk after eating, rather than lying down.

However I appreciate Chinese siesta because it gives this little laowai some 'me time'.

Can't do it. I wish the lunch break was just 30 minutes so I could go home earlier. I see it as a great waste of time

Napping is common all over the world especially after you eat, because food can cause you to get tired. It's normal to nap after lunch since the food you eat will make you sleepy. Haven't you ever learned this at school or from your local doctor. Also, napping for about 1 hour is healthy for you, this is what the doctor says. Why else do you think they have this practice early in life in kindergartens I know where I went they had nap time. Even when you get older taking a nap is still supposed to give you the benefits it did when you were younger.

Scandinavian:

Kindergartners nap because children need sleep. A normal healthy adult does not need more than 6-7 hours of sleep per day. Did the doctor say "why" it is healthy to nap. Is this a Chinese doctor or a Western doctor. How come I do not get sleepy after eating, is it because I do not have that habit?
