Q: How do Chinese judge whether writing is 'beautiful' or not?

We judge an author's writing by the simplicity or complexity of the words they use, the order of those words, whether the language flows, the play on words, the alliterations, the metaphors, etc...

But I was wondering how beauty is judged in Chinese writing - is it purely the way it sounds? Is there more emphasis on the expressions and idioms of old?

Anyone with a strong working knowledge of characters know?

Btw, I'm speaking purely in terms of writing, not content

Hi there,
In my opinion, Chinese writing is judge exactly the way it's judged in the west. Everything from word choise, language flow, metaphors etc.. are taken into consideration although i'd say word plays and the use of chengyu (proverbs) probably take an important place...
