Q: How do Chinese people meet significant others?

Almost all Chinese people I know never go out to the bars on the weekends and just work, work, work all the time during the week. But lots have plans to get married pretty young. Where do they meet these significant others?

The internet has become a fantastic antidote to those who are too scared/nervous/unaccustomed to the meet-n-greet culture.

Chinese dating websites are a dime a dozen, and these offer a discreet way of meeting someone who fulfils their 'criteria' (as it's said that marriage/relationships in China are often about convenience rather than love... that's the traditional view anyway)

www.baihe.com is the most popular with something crazy like 30 million users, and 200,000 new users signing up every day!

But there are loads more, and often people find each other through QQ, or playing online computer games.

Be prepared for the next generation of Chinese uber-geeks!

At college. We have 26 people in our class, 6 got married after graduate.
And also blind date, so many people do this. It's effective, as both part on the date want to get married. Not really hard to get married.

It is just like buying a new car. First the model, then the specific extras you want. Take your list and go shopping.

Chinese women choose to marry at a certain time to a certain kind of man with specific qualities. Once she has her list, it is just like going to the free market and buying a slab of pork.

Love and attraction have nothing to do with it.

It is cold and calculated.

A:Going to HK would be the best bet I reckon, especially if you were looking for a church wedding. Chinese weddings are pretty grim IMO - you go to a barren govt dept with souless officials and navigate red tape so some guy can give you a red stamp and a marriage book. You get expensive pictures taken of you both posing in places you'd never go to in everyday life that is somehow supposed to represent your wedding, then a while later it's off to a restaurant where a game show host kind of guy makes sure it's as tacky as possible while the guests eat as fast as they can so they can leave as soon as they finish eating and gave you money. Hell, I'd go to Thailand or the Philippines and get married in Paradise.   -- Stiggs
