Has anyone come across questions tested for the Foreign Expert Certificate?
11 years 5 weeks ago in Visa & Legalities - China
Um. I didn't have to take any tests to get my FEC. They asked for my university diploma (actual was needed, copy would not suffice) and maybe a resume....
Traveler:
They started in 2009. The schools have the answers, and do it for you. It is supposed to show you understand the Chinese people, so you won't hurt their feelings.
The test also has questions about the west, to show that you know the western culture, and not a non-native speaker (NNS).
In the first version of the test, many of the "western" questions had four choices, none of which was correct. It just demonstrated that China knew very little about the west
I was able to use a color copy of my diploma scanned and sent from back home. Although they made me translate it as well. (Major pain in the ass).
cooter:
Yeah, one of my colleagues had to translate mine. But first, I had to "translate" ye olde English style font for her into something a little more legible for her....comic sans, or perhaps it was times new roman....can't really remember?
It's a rather trivial, discrete-item test with silly questions such as: What are the names of the first Chinese astronauts?; What color are Chinese people's eyes?; What are the 8 Great Cuisines of China?; In which dynasty did X occur?; etc. Most questions would perplex your average (educated) Chinese citizen and at the end of the day, do not prove you are an expert in any field other than taking silly multiple-choice-question tests. A sham, basically. Good luck.
No questions at my first FEC in Tianjin in Feb. 2011, and none at my present FEC in Dalian, Liaoning. I handed two photos to School rep. few weeks ago, and she brought me new FEC a week later.
thanks guys, but this is the new policy for 2013. i was told to come for an interview.
pbrown22:
Wow, never heard of an interview for foreign experts certificate. Things are really changing if that is the case. Let us know how it goes.

ive always had to appear to renew visa for fec but i have never been asked any questions, the school representative usually does the talking.
the pain in the ass is keeping the old passport for my entry date because i havent left china for 3 years on my us passport, picking up the new visa today.
I had to filled up FEC questionnaire last year in Tianjin. I wrote few words about it here, and forget it. I had issued two FECs in Liaoning after that; one last September, and another one few weeks ago. I wasn't required to fill up the questionnaire for either one.
Here is the questionnaire's web link:
