Q: How do foreigners eat well in China?

Foreigners are lovely people in China. They bring new ideas and lifestyles. How do they deal with their daily eating? How many meals do they have per day? How do they feel about Chinese food? Welcome to comment.

Obviously everyone is different, but speaking for myself and probably most people I know...

When in China it's not much different from being at home as far as eating goes.

Three meals a day usually, cook whatever you want to eat at home for dinner and maybe breakfast. Eat out a few times a week, often small convenient restaurants close to home when you don't feel like cooking or you're hanging out with friends.

Chinese food is good, I can't eat it every day but maybe that's just me.

No, all foreigners are the same.

Not bad, I got used to Chinese food quite fast. but still prefer eat at home rather than eat outside. I m not quite sure about cleanliness in  cafes and restaurants.

I eat hamburgers and pizza everyday, breakfast lunch and dinner. . Foreign government just like Chinese, we are forced to keep to our tradition and culture. And what the Chinese government says is true, our bodies are different. If we eat Chinese food, we will die.

Englteachted:

I'm sick and tired of this stupid question in all it's forms. One time a teacher saw me with a McDonalds cup (once). She asked me if I eat there everyday and why don't I try Chinese food. I asked her, how many times have we bumped into each in the school canteen, several times she said. I asked her how many times has she seen me with anything from McDs, this one time.

So by her logic over 7 times vs 1, 1 negates 7. She's a university teacher.

The real question is, can you use chopsticks? As everyone knows most foreigners aren't clever enough

Most foreigners are not even clever enough to speak. Sometimes when I am talking in Chinese I feel that they are even more surprised by the fact that I can speak at all, rather than I can communicate in Chinese.

Yeah, the patronizing compliments and ridiculous comments can get to you. But a lot of times Chinese are just looking for something to talk about...

Many aren't very good conversation starters and when they see something that confuses or excites them, they want to discuss it. Emotionally driven conversations, not much thought behind them at all.

Well over 90% of Chinese are awful at conversing, they only know pre-made sentences and yelling whatever crosses their mind as a mean to converse.

Usually I will talk to people regardless, but they make a dumb remark once, I state my disapproval, twice and I stop talking with them altogether.

I just got back from the market. I bought a very large bag of vegetables for 16 kuai. I also buy pork, chicken and prawns from the market. It's best to get there in the morning when everything is fresh. I've got a good relationship with all my favourite vendors and they know me by name.

I usually cook Asian cuisine; Thai, Vietnamese or Chinese. I also buy cheese, good quality Mongolian beef and New Zealand red wine to treat myself. The price of these things is offset by the money I save by shopping at the market.

I usually eat 8 times a day...For breakfast I eat bread and milk, lunch at mc Donald's, and dinner usually at Burger King. Sometimes I like to eat veggies, because I do care about my health, so I order an extra portion of French fries. For me only beef. Chinese food?im afraid it will kill me. I don't drink water but only coke.

hope this helps.

Easy!

This is my 2nd time in China. This time I brought a small Chinese Cook book from the UK. All the ingredients are readily available and I experiment with new ideas from the book.
Its a good hobby to have. I constantly amaze my Chinese colleagues with my creations, "Wow ! you cook Chinese food!....can you cook for me?"

I love good Chinese food like I love good food from any country.

Thai food, Indian food, Greek food, Mexican food, Polish good, Chinese food etc.

My favorite Chinese food is -

tang cu li ji

yu xiang rou si

niu wa /xia mixed with vegtables

gong bao ji ding

tu dou si

and much more...

I don't know why some foreigners say they hate Chinese food, that is ridiculous. Most Chinese food is a bit oily... so I can see that but they are REALLY missing out.

Foreigners in china will include people from all other countries other than china and it is vast group !!

No two foreigners (or  people) can have same eating habits.

When in home country , we eat at home, we eat outside --- sometime  Mexican, Italian , Chinese, Japanese, Thai food, street food, junk food ......and any and all kinds of food.

Here is also same.

All depends upon mood and availability - No hard and fast rule.
