For one, many of the gyms' toilet facilities are quite poor and very "public". The last gym I went to didn't have cubicle doors so you just saw everyone doing their business as soon as you went into the bathroom. This particular gym didn't stock any toilet paper either, which I heard is quite common here.

If your gym also has a swimming pool, don't expect the water to be replaced or cleaned often. I occasionally went swimming in my former gym and one time when I dared to open my eyes under the water I saw a mountain of disgusting, dead skin at the bottom. On several occasions, I saw grown up people spitting their flem right into the pool. Also expect a lot of urine in there as I don't believe most of the adults are civilised enough to get out of the pool and into the bathroom - these are the people who encourage their kids to pee on busy sidewalks and on the floor of shopping malls after all.

Other than that, no-one wipes the sweat from machinese they use. Bring your own towel and disinfectant. Also, when swimming, buy yourself a pair of swimming socks so you don't catch a nast veruca and make sure to wear googles so the toxic chemicals used to disinfect the 2 year old, unflitered water in the pool doesn't erode your eyeballs.
