Q: How do I change my Visa from L Tourist to F or Z

I know this has been probably asked many times but depsite searching I could not find the answer. I came to China on an L type tourist visa and have been offered a job. To keep things legal I need to get a working F or Z type. Is it possible to change my visa status within China or do i need to return to my home country which is the UK.

In theory you are supposed to get a latter of Employment form your future employer and return to UK and ask for the "Z" visa, the "F" visa does not legally allow you to work.

In reality, if the employer is authorized to hire foreigners, and has the right contacts, he could get your work permit and residence permit at PSB without you leaving China.  It would also depend on which city you will be located, some officers at PSB are more rigid than others.

I would try the second one frist, and if it does not work, then you will have no choice but to leave and go to UK to get it.  But be sure you do take the required documentation from employer with you.

Simple, go to a agency, pay little more than to PSB directly, but get F visa for sure ! and without stress.

Hello everybody!

I might have to enter China with a L visa as well. Do you know why companies in China are so reluctant to send the invitation letter for F visas? In theory, you can provide ppl with invitation letter only if you are inviting them for a job interview, so no real commitment for them...

tnx
