Q: How do I find an apartment in Guilin?

I'm in Canada. I can't find any onine listings. I know I'll get screwed, but I want to get some places to look at, before I come. Then come and groan about it later. What's a good area to be in?

That is a surprise that you couldn't find any listings through the internet. If you can't find any online listings better check some sources that might be close by to Guilin and have them contact the agency that has apartments. After they contact the agencies have them contact you directly and send you apartment listings by email.

Ted, if you use Google Chrome then go to 58.com which is like the Chinese Craigslist, and it will translate all the pages for you.
I have been hunting for a place in Shenzhen for a while, and even though I would not be able to call any agent on the site due to my not speaking Chinese, I use it as research so I know what to expect once I start calling them with my local hosts after the New Year.
If you don't use Google Chrome I would suggest downloading it....it's quite fast to install and works better than Internet Explorer I find.
