bye the bye did you get my PM last week?
I'm English, we don't have a national day .
The closest we come is St George's day Apr 23rd. So no biggy, it's not something I've ever celebrated (apart from sometimes wearing a rose to antagonise the Scottish at my former work), so it's not something I miss.
mArtiAn:
Don't be sad, son. Don't you know? 'Every' day is National British Day! I like to celebrate it by walking into strangers homes and telling them to piss off out of it.
Dude, you even got me on a couple of those!!!
#3 - two hits???? Yeah, I spose! I actually had their... tape?
#5 - as Traveler said - shit food! (also, if you're a Bris-vegan, it's the place you meet in the mall )
#8 - agreed! It DOES fade the curtains (I can explain if to you if you like!)
#10 - Gary???
#11 - ... nope.......
Btw, here in Hangzhou, there's maybe... 20+ Aussies (and close to half of them from Qld!) One of they guys is good mates with a restaurant owner and his yank chef, so we're having a big day for it... including the meat-pies (not 4n20, but anyway...), and they have piles of VB, XXXX, Cascade etc. Might get the J's on for the music (not that I really like it, but the accenting and all...). too bad the weather probably won't be good enough for a bbq
i never really celebrated the fourth. i simply enjoyed the holiday
When in the US...BBQ, fireworks, booze.
When in China...I wear my Captain America t-shirt to work and sing songs about shooting redcoats (those songs actually exist, right?)

What is a Australian Kiss?
The same as a French Kiss only it comes from Down Under
Traveler:
As a Labor Party member, I must frown on the answer to number 10. Oh wait. It's OK. I'm a Rudd supporter...
Shining_brow:
I hadn't heard #11... I should remember it!
Phil - "The Goanna band"???? Is that like "The Cold Chisel band"? :p
Traveler - given that the TV stations would change their airing schedules to daylight savings, it would mean that the 6pm news (for example - or The Goodies on ABC :p) would then actually be on at 5pm*. So, in order to watch it without the glare from the extra sunshine, you need to close the curtains... which in turn, would obviously fade the curtains from the extra exposer to the sun! D'uh!
(and, since QLD is so much further north than NSW or Vic, that 5pm looks more like 4pm...)
brisguy:
Phil I have to correct you. Two states do not observe DST. QLD and WA.
The fact that no one knew the answers hurts the feelings of the Australian people.
Hugh.G.Rection:
That's okay Traveler, you can bask in your 40,000 years of history to make you feel better.
Traveler:
Hahaha. Yes. No other country comes close, and we don't even have to lie about it
I'm Irish. Many years ago, the Irish decided to export our national holiday, principally to over-enthusiastic and often dubiously self-titled "Irish Americans". Meanwhile, in Ireland, most of my countrymen just do what we do all year round. Drink. A lot. And maybe wear some token green. But surprisingly little fanfare about the whole thing.
Haven't done it in China yet, but March beckons. I'm no futurologist, but there's a fair chance of a p*ss-up.
sorrel:
I hosted a fun party in a local coffee shop. They had to turn people away it was so crowded. All food and drink was coloured green for the occasion. The owner asked me to do the same next year, but I will be in a different city. there was bad singing and worse dancing, but everyone had a good time, especially those who arrived in green hats !!
