Why not get a job?

Or, you could also ask someone from home to wire you the money or buy you a ticket.

The Embassy will help you get a ticket if you really have no money or any other options, but they'll bill you for it once you get back home.

Also, the misspellings in this question suggest that this poster isn't actually an American.

Traveler:

Maybe he's not concentrating on his typing due to hunger pangs and exposure from living on the street.

The Australian Consulate wouldn't help me when I was in a similar situation in 2003, so I sat in at the American Consulate, asking for political asylum. It embarrassed the Australians enough to lend me the fine for expired visa and airfare home (plus a little spending money). I had to surrender my passport until I repaid the debt.

Hulk:

"n" and "m" are right next to each other, and not everyone is a champion speller. I wonder how much time you've spent talking to other Americans online -- most of them make worse mistakes than this, and they're quite often oblivious to it.

I often make typos and it seems like I'm an idiot (I am!), so all of these typos are no issue.

Traveler:

Exactly right, Hulk. But you will notice the Australians on here rarely make typing mistakes.

Or maybe something to do with Americans not knowing how to spell using proper English?

With all the budget cuts, I do think it will be a rare case that the American Embassy will give you the money for air fare to return home.

I have requested a few services at the Guangzhou Consulate, and was told in more than one occasion that there was no money available in their budget any more to provide those services.

Despite budget cuts, they will likely help you, but you will be required to repay the debts.

Obviously, I don't know your full situation, but.... 'destitute' also usually means 'desperate'... and 'desperate' in China means lots of jobs available to teach English. Depending on your background, there's always EF and WSI looking...
