Q: How do you deal with dry skin in Beijing?

I've got extremely dry skin lately and just ran out of my fav moisturizer which I brought here from home. I refuse to buy any of those strange Chinese brand products so what do others do here to deal with dry skin? Where do you buy moisturizers here? Do humidifiers help?

Try Watson's for something like E45 - they stock it in some places. otherwise Walmart, Carrefour, Metro or Tesco. you should be able to find one that stocks a brand you know.

i am allergic to many lotions, so i have always just used grapeseed or olive oil. Works better than lotions, and healthier; but a pain to apply as you don't want to get it on your good clothes. Therefore, i usually apply it in the evening when i am at home a few hours before bed

consider doing nothing, you'll have dry skin for some days, but then your skin will adjust, once you put moisturizer on you are just funding the manufacturers of these. before the invention of moisturizers people still managed.

"It rubs the lotion on its skin or it gets the hose again." Aloe vera or other hydrating lotions as opposed to oil-based lotions.

Try Olive oil! Italian, Spanish or French brand. I tried very good (colour & taste) Californian olive oil from Napa few years ago. You should get the best quality (the most expensive), preferably in smaller bottles. You won't use 0.5 l bottle in a year, if you put some on your face every night before sleep.

You will see at first trial, your skin is different in the morning, after you wash your face. Softer, I would say.

I always remember about olive oil & face skin in the morning while shaving. Butt….then, it's too late.

I find jojoba oil better than olive oil, and you smell less like a salad. it is thinner so smooths out better, and you don't feel oily for the rest of the day.

I would recommend mosturizing before bed. Pay particular focus to the elbows, for some reason they dry out really fast!!!
