Q: how do you deal with expired credit cards, when in China?

my mailing address is gibberish when trying to tell card company or family to just send or forward me a new one.

the translation (google translate) makes it look just as goofy as the original chinese characters.

Your sister has them? YOur pinying adress is fine but dont use the post office. Use fed ex. They have a warehouse in shenzhen. DHL and UPS are all Ok.

I have been using them alot in the past month both sending and recieving. youll get it in days not weeks and dont need to trust China post. If you live in a well known garden in zhanjiang pinying will do more than fine.

You don't have it in English and Chinese?

Edit: I always make sure that my landlord writes my address for me in both English and Chinese. Both characters and in Pinyin.

Write your address in pinyin, but not over translator. Ask Chinese to write you an address in pinyin, and send it to the Western Bank.

Chinese post will deliver mailings in pinyin to you.

You might also go to the Post office, and ask them for your address in pinyin. I never did that, but I receive mail from West in pinyin, written by Chinese teacher.

Either you received (new) CC or no from the Western bank. If you received it or in case you didn't, Western bank is aware of that.

Nothing to do with 'China Post trust'.

It has been my experience, time and again (but no more), that Chinese post is completely dysfunctional as far as delivering anything that looks like it's come from outside the wall.

Questions of competency, honesty and apathy.

I went back to Aust to get my own new credit card last year.  Fukem!

icnif77:

China Merchants Bank grant CC to laowai.

I was refused in Urumqi, because my residence was in Fuk., and not in Urumqi. I had to submit some brazillion documents from the School, and manager knew I don't live in Urumqi.

However, she was beautiful, young lady, so things were forgiven fast.angel

whatever happens, I will let you know.... my card, not just one but 2, and they have been activated.. ...  see what happens ....  first time ever delivered from overseas to this address.

my dear sister is never gonna hear the end of this if it does not work out well. China and a postal code and a phone number should do it......  right?

see how trusting of the world, I am

my very first credit card 1974, was delivered to General Delivery, Negril, Jamaica. all went well, and I expect it to work well again .... no big deal

Why are you writing your address in pinyin? Just print out the Chinese address and tape it to the package.

BHGAL:

cut and paste ..... that is what I told my sis to do.....chinese characters are fine...  but......  even taobao keeps changing the English to my street ...... last year it was "Lu hua lu".    green road ?     now it is Leroy on the right Rd.       figure that out....  this is what taoboa did to my address    .. not me.

As others state. Email your address in Chinese to Canada. Print and stick to envelope, putting china in BIG letters underneath. That's what I've done before and it works. Using pinyin means it still gets delivers but takes longer as china post have to then work out how to deliver it to you.

Obe question - why the hell did you activate the cards before you received them? Open invitation to get scammed if they go missing in the post.

BHGAL:

hotwater....  my sis thought she was doing me a favor  ..she scammed and activated them, not me....  activation has to be done from home phone number is what I believe happened     so she helped me out...without knowing the potential consequences.

1.- As far as country of residence : Both banks told me that if I list my home address as China, they will not issue a new card, both do not issue cards to addresses outside USA as a policy. So, since my sister babysits my home there, I have continued to use my USA address with banks.
2.- When one cards expires, about a month prior, the bank will automatically issue a new card and mail it to my home address. My sister gets it. She will not activate it, and she mails it to me. By not being activated, if stolen prior to delivery to my hands, can not be used for purchases, it will decline automatically. Once it arrives here, then I activate it on line without a problem. Anyway, she does send me a scan of both sides of card so I can notified the bank to send another one if I do not get it here,
3.- As far as my Chinese address: I found the best address posible in Chinese is at that paper the local Police will give you when you register your address within 24 hours of arreiving in China. I scanned it, then copy and paste the chinese characters where it says address. Then on World Pad I typed my name and address in English, underneath pasted the Chinese address (also my cell phone number and email address). And after saving it, I attached a copy to an email to my sister. Now, everytime she sends me a letter or a package, she prints it and glued to either envelope or box.
4.- I send email to each bank every 90 days or so telling them that my employer has sent me to China for 80 to 90 days for inspection tours of factories here, so they do not decline any charges I make from China.
The above has worked for me for the last 5 years. Haven't lost one card yet.
