Q: How do you guys pay for medical?

I just came back from the dentist with a nice bill and I was wondering what everybody does about dental and medical costs?  Is there some kind of insurance we can get that will cover dental costs from a dentist, not the crappy dentists in the hospitals.

Im from England if that helps, I dont know if theres something we brits can get in England that will cover us here.

I find it cheap to get medical treatment in China

In fact I'm on my way to the Dentist next month to get a tooth fixed that is a small fraction of the price to get fixed in Australia

You can get insurance that will get you to top level care

try talking to some of the travel agents and ask about their stuff .

If you are working for somebody in China talk to your HR department they may have some ideas

You can get private insurance in China, but the deductible is normally more than basic care.  Check your major carriers for the policies they provide.

But for things like dental, you would probably be hard pressed to find any reasonable coverage for that.  Unless of course you are talking about major oral surgery such as root canals and such.  Then some of it might go beyond the basic deductible.

I think maybe I'm paying too much for my dental care. it just seems so expensive. I need an inlay and she said it was 1800 kuai. Is it just me or is that too much? I'm going to go check somewhere else

Xpat.John:

I had to have a broken tooth repaired last week in the US.  It cost US$1,000.  And that was the lowest estimate I could find.

Most insurance that is from your home country isn't valid here but I use MSH, it covers all costs for everything but DENTAL, just like in the America's, unfortunately most insurances do not cover dental at the international dentists in China, therefore I do something a bit different, I go to my western doctor who in turn files a claim for health issues, I take the bill to the western dentist, let him do the work and then have the insurance company think it's from a standard procedure for other issues not dealing with teeth
