Quick vote:
1) ebook
2) music
3) texting
4) staring off into space
5) being annoyed by others
I normally opt for the "ebook" route, supplemented with annoyance
I usually go the music route and a hefty helping of annoyance. I also enjoy making eye contact with the people who get on the bus. I'm the only one who does it as the others are usually trying hard to never make eye contact for fear of having to give up their seat to the elderly or someone more deserving. Nice way to pass the time.
Scandinavian:
you should spice up your eye contact with a giant smile.
crimochina:
you notice that too. i love to people watch. i laugh out loud when someone who should get a seat gets on and all of a sudden 3-5 people are sleeping.
Sometimes music....just relaxing.

I think you would be annoying others, You are good at this. maybe lean on them, rub up against them, look over their shoulder, you know do Chinese things.
Music. I have a Sansa with about 2,000 songs. Sometimes I sing along to Kiss songs.
Just kidding, I have no Kiss songs.
Read the news app on my phone.
Or just stare out at the window.
ebooking (look Ma, I just made a new verb!)
scoping out the oh so heated, hot, hot hotties !
I go with the music. My driver likes to listen to techno of all things. I am not a fan but if it helps him keep from getting us killed, he can indulge. I turn my headphones up loud enough to drown it out and usually try to pick something that matches the scenery.
Sleeping...
JackieChan:
no sleep, you wake up with everything gone, maybe even your clothes.
GuilinRaf:
Well, if you sleep in a public bus, definitely. School bus is rather safe as only ID bearing teachers are allowed to board it.
But good point in case of public transport!
I drive (an e-bike) so I spend my commute desperately trying to stay alive, which means looking in 20 different directions at the same time, that sort of takes up most of my concentration, what I've got to spare I use looking at the good looking women.
