Like Hengshan road area. Average costes for a dinner would be around 100-200rmb. Most Chinese won't go eat there. I just go there on weekend. Most people eat and drink there are westerners.Do you think this area can be called China?
The French Concession is a place for the Chinese to blow money and act as if they are in a western country, even if only for the day. A place for the chinese to show off their expensive western items that they bought to feel superior to other chinese....oh yes, and chinese gold diggers looking for a Western husband, or sugar daddy....maybe both...he he
And many westerners looking for a western food, and maybe also feel they are in a western country for the day.....

I go there to hunt my potential white huaband. No old man. And I am not a gold digger nor a passport chaser. But I do see young Chinese women with old white men. Well could be love. But I do not think most young Chinese women would fall in love with an old white man. But almost no young white man approached me. I am tired of going there.
Eorthisio:
They don't approach you because they can have model like girls anytime.
Shining_brow:
And Vicky proving yet once again how superficial she is... Love isn't just about looks, you know! (well, obviously, no you don't...).
I'm not denying that there is a large proportion of young hot Chinese girls that are with the older man just because of his money, or the 'foreigner' face-value, but it is actually possible for a young girl to like a more mature, intellectual type of guy. Obviously, not you.
French should give it back, me thinks.
Why are French convinced world was made of pommes frites?
What about rice pudding? Summon the Greeks immediately?
coineineagh:
China should give it back to France if they want to keep calling it a Concession.
I've been there once and I found it to be quite pleasant. It really did feel like a different country in some ways and I was really impressed with the cosmopolitan chic vibe of the area. I enjoyed a nice dinner and a night at a bar there with my better half. It's definitely worth checking out when visiting Shanghai. If I lived in Shanghai I guess I'd go there frequently if I was in a good financial situation as there seem to be a lot of high quality establishments in that part of town.

I had my birthday dinner there in Milos and Green Kitchen. Both are western resturants. This area full of westerners. Which bar did you go? As I know,Shanghai brewery there is very popular, its located besides Dongping road and Hengshan road.

I don't remember the name - this was more than 2 years ago. There was a kind of walking street with a square near a subway station and a bunch of restaurants and bars around the square - a really classy and attractive area.
Strawberry66:
You went to the orher side. You should walk towards to the Hengshan road and Dong Pinf road part, that part is much more high standard and have more fun.
Good place since it wasn't designed by Chinese, usually the most livable cities/areas in China are old-concessions or trading outposts built by foreign powers, such as Qingdao or Xiamen among others.

yeah, qindao was very impressive to me, i felt like back home in some parts of city.
I often go there for dinner when I'm up in SH for a night or 2 - usually to Greek Taverna. And I sometimes go to see my football team do a crap job in the EPL in the Camel bar just around the corner (like last weekend) But Crap! prices are expensive! 70RMB for a glass of cider!!! I should probably experiment a bit more, but I like Greek food!!
If I'm in SH for only a few hours, I'll usually just go down the road (YueYang Lu) to the Thirsty Seahorse - small place, but i know the owner (and cider is cheaper, and when I'm lucky, they've got pear, instead of just apple!) And, just next to that is a nice place for pies and quiches.
It's either Greek there, or to XinTianDi for Thai food. I used to go to the Indian restaurant, but I've found better in Nanjing!
Strawberry66:
Is it Greek Trverna called milos? I was in Milos this Saturday.

but........overall, younger women looking look for older men for many more reasons than money... these are:
Experience….many life lessons learned, valuable experiences, and as a lover.
Definite goals…know what they want and how to get it. They know the objective.
Financially stable…stable jobs, means stable home life. stable does not mean rich.
Confidence…comes naturally when you know what you want and what you want to do.
Commitment …they want to know if there will be a chance for commitment..dif between boy and man, usually will not play with her feelings and thinks more long term.
Higher social value…she increases her social standing
Maturity…young are awkward, annoying, pretty girls avoid them. Men well-mannered and refined and contribute better to society.
Father figure….feel secure and take care of her. Two for one deal, feel secure and a lover.
Direct and to the point….older men have outgrown the fear of rejection
Dominance…..they take charge, more like an alpha male.
