Q: How Does This 72 Hour Visa Free Transit Work?

I'm trying to persuade my friend to come through Beijing on her way home. How does the 72 hr visa free transit work? She has a British passport, so does the airline carrying her in and out of Beijing have to be the same? Does she need to register beforehand? Is it super easy?

Anyone done it, know someone who has done it, or knows the rules?

Still do research because China is messed up. But it should work like any other country that has visa on a arrival. Show your passport and shes in.. Same as you going to Hongkong.  No paper work, no registration. Nothing.

Side note.... Doesnt it seem odd that visa restrictions are getting tighter and thery are kicking out people for overstaying their visas.. Yes anyone could just fly to beijing or dalian and get in with no visa or background check and then just fall off the map??

icnif77:

In HK, there's no entering visa, because you hold passport from countries, which are allowed to stay in HK 90 days. Same as EU passport holder doesn't need visa for entering USA, or reverse.

There's list of countries, which residents can enter and stay in HK for 90 days on HK Consulate website.

1.If a foreigner didn’t buy the air ticket of leaving Beijing to another country in 72 hours when he entered the Beijing, can he apply for the 72-hour visa-free stay?

According to the provisions, he can’t apply for the 72-hour visa-free stay, because if someone wants to apply for the 72-hour visa-free stay, he should have the connecting air tickets of leaving the Beijing capital airport in 72 hours with the confirmed date and seat or relevant certificates. That means he should prepare the air ticket of leaving Beijing before entering into Beijing.

2. Can they come to Beijing by train and leave Beijing by air in 72 hours?

This policy only implement in Beijing airports, the foreigners should handle procedures in Beijing Capital Airport.
