Q: How does one get an international drivers license and passport like the U.N. employees have?
Last year two of my new neighbors came to China to do UN internships for 90 days and they had to travel back and forth between China and Africa. The man was Canadian and his wife was American but they had "International Passports" and International driver licenses. They told me this was to protect them from discrimination when working in foreign countries but I never got around to asking them how they got them. Does anyone know?
I have never heard about U.N. Interns being issued such documents. In fact AFAIK the U.N. explicitly states that they do not help their Interns with any visa/legal issues. Moreover, U.N. Interns are not considered employees of the Organization and as such they don't enjoy any privileges/immunities. However, there are many specialized agencies/programs of the U.N., so it's quite possible that some of them provide their Interns with some special rights, but it's difficult to answer your question when you don't provide more details, such as what U.N. agency they were actually working for/interning at.
Add tinachinavisa to your Wechat, it doesn't matter where you are in China they can get it for you. I got mine.
